NBA Weekend Specials – Aussie fans double up on Celtics

Fri, Nov 18, 2:55pm by Staff Writer

The NBA hardcourt action heats up this weekend with the Boston Celtics having a pair of tough home and away games. The boys in the green and white take on the Warriors at home before heading over to Detroit to mix it up with the Pistons. As always at, we have picked out the best bets for the weekend action.

Golden State Warriors @ Boston Celtics

TD Garden, Boston – Saturday 18 November, 12.00pm AEDT

TV: Live on ESPN

Golden State head to Boston on the back of a hard-fought victory over the Toronto Raptors. Steph Curry was in fine form with 35 points and will have to be on-song again, taking on a tough Boston defence lead by Isaiah Thomas.

The game represents Kevin Durant’s first visit to Boston, since flirting with a possible Celtics free agency signing in the off-season. Durant’s visit is sure to add some spice to an interesting match-up, as the Celtics made a huge play for Durant before he moved from Oklahoma to Golden State. The Celtics will need to step up on the glass with injuries to key big men Jae Crowder and Al Horford. Isaiah Thomas is in good form averaging 27.2 (PPG) but he will need support from Avery Bradley to keep the Celtics in the game.

Sportsbet has the Warriors as favourites at $1.37 with the Celtics at $3.22.

The Warriors should continue their good form, on the back of a five-game hot streak. With Durant on the boards and Draymond Green leading the defence they will be too much for the Celtics to handle.

BEST BET: Warriors to win @ $1.37

Boston Celtics @ Detroit Pistons

Palace of Auburn Hills, Michigan – Sunday 19 November, 11.00am AEDT

TV: Live on ESPN

The Celtics are on the road and are heading to Michigan to take on the Pistons who are struggling to get their season on track after a loss to NY Knicks. The Pistons are doing it tough, with a double header against the Eastern Conference’s top teams. While the Celtics have struggled to put together some consistency during the season, sitting at 6-5 (not counting the match against the Warriors), this is due more to injuries rather than form. The Celtics should be welcoming starting centre, Al Horford back in the line-up and key big-man James Crowder.

The Pistons will need to find a key defensive match-up, for explosive guard Isaiah Thomas who has been well-supported by Avery Bradley who has been averaging 19.7 (PPG).

The betting market will not be posted until after the Warriors-Celtics game but Boston should come up favourites.

The Celtics have fallen short on the defensive end of the court and the Pistons will need to step-up with their shooters to match Celtics to have a shot at pulling off a victory.

I expect the Celtics to be strong in this contest and come out on-top. I’m tipping the Celtics for the win.

BEST BET: Celtics to win (Odds to be updated)
