The second weekend of NBA action is almost here and as we’ll do every week at www.australiangambling.lv, we’ve picked out the three best bets for the weekend’s hard-court action.
New York Knicks @ Chicago Bulls
United Centre, Chicago – 11:00am Saturday 5 November
TV: Live on ESPN
The New York Knicks could use a nice road victory to climb out of a disappointing 1-3 start that they find themselves in. The Bulls fell to the Celtics on Thursday (AEDT) but hope to remain unbeaten at home and build on their solid 3-1 start to the season.
After five years with the Bulls, Derrick Rose will be in the visiting locker rooms at the United Centre for the first time. Rose is averaging just over 16 points and 2.5 assists per game with his new club and will be keen to have a big game against his former teammates.
The Bulls are doing just fine without him though, and despite losing Thursday’s game to Boston are still one of the big contenders in the East. Led by Jimmy Butler who’s averaging 21 points and almost seven rebounds, they are also getting great service from returning Chicagoan Dwyane Wade, who is averaging almost 16 points and 4 assists.
The city of Chicago is still in full blown party mode after the Cubs clinched the World Series on Thursday and the Bulls will be looking to continue the celebrations with a fifth straight home win here.
BEST BET: Bulls to win by over six points: $1.91
Golden State Warriors @ Los Angeles Lakers
Staples Centre, Los Angeles – 1:30pm Saturday 5 November
TV: Live on ESPN
Playing on the second night of a back-to-back, the Warriors travel to Los Angeles to take on the Lakers on Friday night. This will be the first of four meetings between the two teams this season, and the first of three to be played in November.
The Lakes are building a nice stable of young talent and the combination of D’Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson gives them one of the better and more dynamic backcourts in the entire league.
With Golden State playing on the second night of a back-to-back, look for the young Lakers to try to take advantage of the more senior Warriors’ fatigue by pushing the pace of play. However with the likes of Kevin Durant who is averaging 28.5 points and nine rebounds and Stephen Curry, who is averaging 26.3 points and 4.3 assists, it’s hard to see them getting close.
I’m backing the talented Warriors team to win by double digits here and cover the line of 10.5 points.
BEST BET: Warriors by more than ten points: $1.91
Chicago Bulls @ Indiana Pacers
Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Indiana – 10:00am Sunday 6 November
TV: Live on ESPN
Chicago face Indiana for the second time in a week but this time it’s in Indiana. The Bulls play the Knicks on Saturday (AEDT) and the Pacers play the Bucks on Friday (AEDT) so it’s worth keeping an eye on those results.
The market has the Pacers at $1.76 and the Bulls at $2.16.
As mentioned earlier in the preview, the Bulls are flying and look like serious contenders in the East with the two new additions in Rajon Rondo and Dwyane Wade assisting the rising star, Jimmy Butler.
The Pacers have started the season at 2-2 with two losses on the road to Brooklyn and then a 17-point loss to this opponent, the Bulls. Their home form however has been a different story, they beat the Mavericks on opening night and then beat the Lakers in their fourth game.
The Pacers have a solid starting five who can get very hot from beyond the arc but that hasn’t been the case so far this season. Paul George aside, who’s averaging 24 points per game, they have struggled.
I’m going to back Chicago here, they made the most moves out of anybody in the Central Division this summer, and while they barely missed the playoffs last season, they probably shouldn’t be counted out of contention this year.
BEST BET: Bulls to win – $2.16
