After securing the NBL Championship with a 3-2 series win over the Adelaide 36ers in March, Melbourne United are $3.60 equal top picks to defend their title this season.
Alongside United at $3.60 are the Sydney Kings, who have pulled one of the biggest signings in the history of the league, with former NBA star Andrew Bogut making the move from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Harbour City.
As a 2015 NBA Champion with the Golden State Warriors, there are a long list of prop betting options involving the 213-centimetre centre. The Melbourne native is $1.83 to average over 15 points per game, while he’s at $8 to claim the league MVP at season’s end.
While most of the media attention has been on Bogut’s move home, Monday’s announcement that NBL owner Larry Kestelman has agreed to sell a 25 per cent share of Melbourne United to sports media company Crocmedia is a significant one.
The reigning Champions will now have two major shareholders, with Crocmedia and Kestleman having an equal share of a quarter of the company.
Crocmedia CEO Craig Hutchison said in a statement “it presents us an opportunity to offer our brand partners a unique end-to-end solution in the growing code; from community and grassroots, to the incredibly exciting match-day environment and all the broadcast and content opportunities that sit around it”.
SEN radio, which is owned by Crocmedia, will broadcast all home and away game live in the upcoming season, which begins with a trip to Philadelphia to take on Ben Simmons and the rest of his 76ers teammates in a pre-season match on the 28th of September.
The NBL x NBA series will feature five different NBL teams with Melbourne joined by the Perth Wildcats, Bogut’s Sydney Kings, the New Zealand Breakers, and last season’s runners-up, the Adelaide 36ers.
Alongside the 76ers, the other NBA clubs involved in the series which is a huge coup for the game in Australia, are the Utah Jazz, the LA Clippers, the Phoenix Suns, the Denver Nuggets and the team who topped the NBA Eastern Conference standings after the regular season, the Toronto Raptors.
