NBL Fixture Released: Melbourne and Sydney joint favourites

Thu, Jul 26, 8:24am by Head Editor

The NBL fixture was released on Wednesday and Basketball fans across the country won’t have to wait long to see former NBA champion Andrew Bogut make his NBL debut for the Sydney Kings.

The 2015 NBA Champion is set to suit up in a Kings uniform for the first time against last season’s runners-up, Adelaide 36ers, on the opening Saturday of the season after reigning champion Melbourne United unfurl their flag against Illawarra Hawks a night earlier.

The Melbourne-Sydney rivalry is set to reignite when Bogut takes on his hometown club in a Melbourne Cup eve game scheduled between the Kings and the Victorian’s at Hisense Arena.

Speaking of the defending Champions, they’ve also retained their open-air game on Boxing Day and to make it even more special, the contest doubles as a Grand Final rematch against the 36ers.

A massive eight games will be played across the Australia Day weekend, with the Hawks and Cairns Taipans have the privilege of being the only teams to take the floor on the public holiday itself.

The NBL has decided to push back the season start date to October 11, which gives the teams participating in the NBA vs NBL games, which begins on September 28 when United head to Philadelphia to take on Ben Simmons and the rest of his 76ers teammates.

That October 11 clash will see the New Zealand Breakers ($1.76) host the Brisbane Bullets ($2.02) at 6:30pm at Auckland’s Spark Arena before the 36ers ($1.63) host the Perth Wildcats ($2.23) at 8:30pm.

Just as we saw last season, there will be two breaks for the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers, with no games to be played between November 26 and December 4 and February 18 to 26.

United and the Kings currently share favouritism for the title at $3.60 ahead of the 36ers and Wildcats who both sit on the second line of betting at $6.
