The NBL season continues this weekend and its been a very even start to the new campaign with only the Perth Wildcats showing consistency across their five games so far, winning four of them.
Brisbane Bullets versus Adelaide 36ers
Thursday, 1 November 2018 at 7.50pm at Brisbane Entertainment Centre, Brisbane
The Bullets will be looking for back-to-back home wins when they play the Adelaide 36ers for the first time this season on Thursday night.
The home side are $2.44 underdogs, with Adelaide priced as $1.56 favourites.
It’s been a busy week for the 36ers who played in Cairns last Friday, travelled to New Zealand on Sunday and will travel back to Queensland for this game on Thursday.
The travel fatigue certainly came to the fore on Sunday as they were trounced in the second half of their game against the Breakers, losing 114-94 after holding a five-point half-time advantage.
Brisbane covered as 5.5-point home underdogs against Perth last Thursday and are 3.5-point underdogs in this one.
Oddsmakers aren’t keen on the Bullets in this one, despite Adelaide covering just one of their three games as an away favourite this season.
Brisbane is 5-3 against the spread at home and four of their last eight straight up as home underdogs. We are happy to take the points and the Bullets in this one, with Adelaide sure to be weary from their travels.
Best bet- Brisbane Bullets to cover 3.5-point handicap at $1.90
Cairns Taipans versus Melbourne United
Saturday, 3 November 2018 at 7:50pm at Cairns Convention Centre, Cairns
The Taipans are unlucky to be just 1-3 this season after last weekend’s overtime loss to the Sydney Kings.
They head into this match as $2.30 home underdogs against Melbourne United, who are paying $1.65 to win this match in Cairns on Saturday night.
United lost a double overtime thriller last weekend before holding on to beat Illawarra on Monday night minus Chris Goulding.
The status of the star shooter remains unclear ahead of this game, but with United playing Sydney on Monday night, he may be held out of this one.
United is a strong away team, winning five of their past six as away favourites, going 4-2 against the spread in those games.
They have plenty of shooting across the floor even in Goulding’s absence, as was displayed on Monday night.
The challenge for Cairns will be for them to find a consistent scorer outside the league’s top scorer Melo Trimble.
The American guard has been superb for Cairns this season but needs help on the offensive end, particularly down the stretch.
Cairns appears one shooter short this season and are giving up just a 2.5-point start in this one. That’s enough to entice us to back to the reigning champs to get a win in North Queensland.
Best bet- Melbourne United to cover 2.5-point handicap at $1.90
Melbourne United versus Sydney Kings
Monday, 5 November 2018 at 7:50pm at Melbourne Arena, Melbourne
Melbourne Cup eve basketball takes place at Melbourne Arena when two of the competition’s heavyweights meet for the first time this season.
Melbourne and Sydney are each priced at $3.50 to win the NBL Championship and after Monday’s game, we will certainly have a better idea at which club is the more credentialed title threat.
It is United that are the $1.67 favourites to win this match, with Sydney priced at $2.20.
Each side will be playing its second match of the weekend, with Melbourne returning from Cairns and Sydney hosting Illawarra on Friday night.
The Kings have impressed in patches this season, but it is obvious they are well off the mark of being a consistently high performing team.
United has picked up where it left off last season, with its losses coming after a quadruple overtime game against the Breakers with just less than two days rest and a double overtime defeat to Perth.
The crowd in Melbourne will be sure to provide at least a bucket’s advantage and with both teams at full strength, it would be a surprise if Sydney pulled off the upset here.
We are backing the tried and tested formula of the champs in this one to make it two from two this week.
Best bet- Melbourne United to cover 2.5-point handicap at $1.90.
