The New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles met in a rematch of the Super Bowl 52, albeit in an NFL pre-season game at Foxboro last Thursday.
The Patriots won the match 37-20 and led 27-7 at half-time. Tom Brady had 26 attempts, completing 19 of them for 172 yards and two touchdowns.
The Eagles went with Nick Sudfeld at quarterback and he had three touchdowns and one interception in throwing for 312 yards. Super Bowl quarterback Nick Foles was three from nine in limited game time and was sacked three times.
Both teams are favourites to progress from their respective conferences and meet in Super Bowl 53.
The Patriots are title favourites at $6 at Sportsbet, while the Eagles are priced at $10.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are $11 and went down to the Green Bay Packers in a high-scoring affair at Lambeau Field, 51-34. Aaron Rodgers played one drive and scored a touchdown in limited game time, as the Packers rotated through four quarterbacks. For the Steelers, veteran Ben Roesthlisberger sat out the loss.
The Packers are expected to be competitive this year after missing the playoffs last season. They are $13 to win the Super Bowl.
Minnesota fell 14-10 to Jacksonville in Minneapolis in a contest between two teams who featured in last season’s conference finals.
In a low scoring game, Blake Bortles threw for 159 yards and one interception. New Viking Kirk Cousins managed only 12 yards on eight attempts. The Vikings are equal-third favourites to win the Super Bowl at $11, while the Jaguars are $19 to win the title.
The Los Angeles Rams defeated the Oakland Raiders 19-15 at the Raiders’ old home venue at the Coliseum. There was only one passing touchdown between the two teams in a dour affair. The Rams are $13 to win the Super Bowl, with the Raiders outsiders at $34.
Cincinnati grabbed a road win at Dallas, defeating the Cowboys 21-13. The Bengals came back from a 10-0 half-time deficit to win the game. Andy Dalton played one drive and amassed 41 yards. Dak Prescott threw one touchdown and was 10 from 15.
The Bengals are $81 to win the Super Bowl, while the Cowboys are $26.
Tampa Bay prevailed 30-14 against Tennessee, with Jameis Winston throwing two touchdowns for the Bucs. The Titans are $34 to win the Super Bowl, while the Buccaneers are $67.
The Houston Texans earned a narrow 16-13 win against the San Francisco 49ers in Houston. The Texans are $21 to win the Super Bowl, while the 49ers are $26.
In other fixtures, the Broncos ($41) remain winless in pre-season after a 24-23 home loss to the Chicago Bears ($81).
The Kansas City Chiefs ($26), New York Giants ($51), Buffalo Bills ($151), Carolina Panthers ($34), Arizona Cardinals ($81) and Los Angeles Chargers ($21) all picked up wins in action over the weekend.
Miami ($81), Seattle ($34) and Atlanta ($19) are among eight winless teams in the pre-season so far.
