The NFL regular season is drawing to a close, with only three regular season games to play for all teams, including this weekend.
With most divisions in the league still up for grabs, these crucial final intra-division games will be crucial for deciding which teams make the playoffs.
San Diego Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs
Sunday, 17 December 2017 at 12.25pm AEDST
The Kansas City Chiefs are still in control of their playoff destiny in the AFC West, despite losing six of their past seven games. That will change if they lose to the San Diego Chargers on Sunday afternoon.
The Chiefs ended their losing streak with a 28-15 win over the Oakland Raiders last weekend. The Chargers notched up their fourth consecutive win and seventh in their last nine games last weekend.
During the Chargers most recent win streak, quarterback Philip Rivers has thrown for 1,348 yards, eight touchdowns and no interceptions, completing at 69 per cent.
The Chiefs remain hit and miss offensively, but have surpassed 400 yards in back-to-back games.
We are going to side with the in-form Chargers to continue to pile misery on Andy Reid and his Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chargers are in a groove offensively, and the Chiefs haven’t shown the ability to slow down teams with efficient offenses like the Chargers recently.
Best bet- Los Angeles Chargers to win at $1.93
Los Angeles Rams at Seattle Seahawks
Monday, 18 December 2017 at 8.05am AEDST
The top spot in the NFC West is up for grabs in Seattle when the Seahawks look for the season sweep against the LA Rams.
The Rams will be disappointed that they couldn’t get over the line against the Eagles last weekend, who lost quarterback Carson Wentz to a knee injury in the second-half.
The Seahawks haven’t been unbeatable this season, following their win over the league-leading Eagles with a loss at Jacksonville.
The Seahawks are slight favourites in this match-up thanks to their home-field advantage. The Seahawks have covered the handicap just five times so far this season, but have been one of the best teams to support coming off a loss, going 9-2-1 in their last 12 games following a loss.
The Rams struggled in week 5 against the Seahawks’ pass defence, but injuries have cruelled the Seahawks defensive stocks this week. The Seahawks lead the NFL in accepted penalties and yards and will need to be disciplined against a potent Rams team.
In an upset, we are picking the LA Rams to truly stake their playoff claims against a Seahawks team that has a number of defensive injuries.
Best bet- LA Rams to win at $2.15
New England Patriots versus Pittsburgh Steelers
Monday, 18 December 2017 at 8.25am AEDST
A blockbuster rematch of last seasons AFC Championship game, when the New England Patriots visit the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Steelers escaped with a 39-38 win over the Baltimore Ravens last weekend, their eighth win in a row. The Patriots fell a game behind the Steelers with a stunning 27-20 loss to the Miami Dolphins.
The Patriots haven’t found the going tough at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, with Tom Brady holding a 5-2 all-time record at the venue.
The Steelers 11-2 record flatters them, considering they have had to win their last four games at the very end with field goals. They are also even in the turnover differential, with Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger throwing 13 interceptions.
The Patriots did play on Monday Night Football and will have a shorter turnaround time than the Steelers to prepare for this match, who played on Sunday Night Football.
It’s hard to imagine New England losing two games in a row and they will rise to their opponent this weekend.
We are taking Pittsburgh and the points start given their propensity to keep games close all season long.
Best bet- Pittsburgh Steelers +3 at $1.95
