A blockbuster Thursday Night Football match headlines week 4 of the 2018 NFL season, when the Los Angeles Rams host the Minnesota Vikings.
Minnesota Vikings at Los Angeles Rams
Friday, 28 September 2018 at 10:20am, Los Angeles Coliseum
The Los Angeles Rams are undefeated after three games and have moved into favouritism for the 2018 Super Bowl.
Their rivals in the NFC, the Minnesota Vikings fell to the lowly Buffalo Bills 27-6 at hoe in week three in one of the biggest upsets in recent times.
The Rams are $1.36 favourites to win this week four showdown, with the Vikings priced at $3.28.
It was a disappointing last result for Minnesota, who had tied with Green Bay at Lambeau Field in week two, in a match they should have won.
Letting a game get away from them against a rookie quarterback who was on the road and with a defence that had leaked 47 points in its only other road game this season was embarrassing for the Vikings.
They are 16.5-point favourites and $1.04 in money line betting and lost by 21 points in one of the more remarkable betting upsets in recent memory.
The Vikings struggled without running back Davlin Cook who sat with a hamstring injury in week three. There are reports that he will be available this week, and the Vikings really need his output. They had only six rush attempts total against Buffalo, with Kirk Cousins making 55 pass attempts.
The Rams are the most impressive team in the NFL on both sides of the ball at the moment. They have three wins by double digits and quarterback Jared Goff is coming into his own this season.
Greg Zuerlein is the NFL’s best place kicker and he is out with a groin injury, which could be crucial should this one get close.
We don’t think it will and the Rams should continue to roll against the Vikings who are travelling to the West Coast for this early week four match. Rams to win big.
Best bet- Los Angeles Rams to cover 6.5-point handicap at $1.91
New Orleans Saints at New York Giants
Monday, 1 October 2018 at 6:25am at MetLife Stadium, New York
The Giants and Saints both got last start wins on the road, with the Saints hoping to string together three wins on the trot when they travel to New York to play the Giants.
Both Drew Brees and Eli Manning have won Super Bowls and its not often that two Super Bowl winning quarterbacks in the NFC play against one another, given Tom Brady’s strangehold on the NFL in recent seasons.
The Saints are $1.55 favourites to beat the Giants who are priced at $2.53.
New Orleans running back Mark Ingram remains out as he serves his four-game suspension, with this being the final game he is expected to miss.
The Saints have been poor rushing the ball in his absence, running for only 3.9 yards per carry.
2018 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Alvin Kamara is having a stellar season already with 30 caches, 289 yards and a touchdown.
The Giants 27-22 upset win at Houston in week three was their best offensive performance of the season and their first September win in more than two years.
Eli Manning had his best game of the season with 297 yards and missing on only four pass attempts.
The Saints will have to stop Odell Beckham Jnr if they are to stop the Giants. They are on the road for a second straight week and after an overtime win against fierce NFC South division rivals, we think they’ll be ripe for the picking.
Best bet- New York Giants to win at $2.53
Cleveland Browns versus Oakland Raiders
Monday, 1 October 2018 at 6:05am at Oakland Coliseum
Few would have predicted that it would be the Cleveland Browns who snared their first win of the season before the Oakland Raiders but that’s what happened after last week’s 21-17 win against the New York Jets.
The Raiders are $1.65 favourites to beat the Browns when the two teams clash in Oakland on Monday morning (AEST).
Cleveland has not won back-to-back games since 2014 and haven’t won a road game since 2015 when they beat the Baltimore Ravens.
It has been a challenging start to the season for Oakland who are winless after three games, but have led at half-time in all three.
Oakland also have travel fatigue to contend with after travelling across the country to the East Coast to play Miami in week three.
After leading in the fourth quarter, they fell victim to a terrific Dolphins trick play and lost 28-20.
The Baker Mayfield era is well and truly underway in Cleveland after the number one pick came on and dazzled in the Browns’ 21-17 win against the Jets.
It is hard to see Cleveland picking up a win against this desperate Raiders team, but given them have had three extra days to recover from their week three match, it should be a close one.
Best bet- Oakland to win 1-13 at $2.68
