So far, this season there has been plenty of shocks in the NRL. In these early stages of the year all of the clubs are trying to gain an early foothold in the top eight. With Round Three fast approaching we take a look at the Best Bets of the Round.
WATCH: Our Preview of Round 3 of the NRL
Melbourne Storm v Brisbane Broncos, AAMI Park, Melbourne, Thursday March 16, 8pm
Arguably the biggest clash of the weekend kicks off the Round Three on Thursday evening in Melbourne. The Storm host the Broncos for their first home fixture of the year. Melbourne have had a perfect start to the season on the road winning both games against the Bulldogs and Warriors. Although their form hasn’t been exceptional they have shown enough quality to suggest that they are real contenders for the Premiership. They are priced at $1.57 with William Hill to claim victory compared to the Broncos at $2.40. Brisbane have won one and lost one so far and suffered a golden-point loss to the Cowboys last weekend. If they can repeat the form showed in that match, then they could challenge the Storm this time out.
Bet of the Match: Storm to Win by 1-12 points at $3.00
Gold Coast Titans v Parramatta Eels, Cbus Super Stadium, Friday March 17, 8:05pm AEDT
Current front runners Parramatta travel to the Gold Coast to face the Titans this weekend. The Eels have been in fantastic form so far, easily beating both the Dragons and Sea Eagles in the opening rounds. As they look to put last season’s disappointments behind them, they have certainly started this season as team wanting to be at the top. They stand as favourites with William Hill to win priced at $1.52. The Titans, on the other hand, have struggled so far, this year and things won’t get any easier as they host the Eels. Star signing Jarryd Hayne faces a month on the sidelines with injury which could prove a defining point in the Titans season. Despite his status his form hasn’t set the Gold Coast alight and his forced absence may inspire the rest of the squad. They stand at $2.55 with William Hill.
Bet of the Match: Parramatta to Win by 13+ points at $2.80
Penrith Panthers v Sydney Roosters, Pepper Stadium, Saturday March 18, 7pm AEDT
Penrith started the season as favourites alongside the Storm to claim the Premiership. Many would have questioned these prices and the Panthers have struggled to live up to their billing. Although they have reignited their season with a 36-2 win over the Tigers in Round Two, they have had to rebuild from a dismal thrashing in their season opener against the Dragons. This week they face an in-form Sydney Roosters side, who have won two from two battling past the Titans and Bulldogs. William Hill can’t separate either side with them both priced at $1.91 for the win. The Panthers need to make a statement in this match to reignite their season at this early stage. Plenty of pressure was piled on them in the off-season and they have not responded well, while the Roosters have certainly showed an incredible turnaround from 2016.
