The finalisation of the last six rounds of the season week has left some clubs feeling better than others. With just six points separating sixth from 13th, focus now turns to the final ten rounds of the season.
Parramatta Eels v Canterbury Bulldogs, ANZ Stadium, Thursday June 29, 7:50pm AEST
As attention now turn to who will make finals, Parramatta have snuck into eighth spot on the ladder. Although only two points separate them from ninth, their run-in looks a little easier than those around them. Momentum is key, however, at this time of year and the Eels could well be tested this weekend when they face the Bulldogs. The Eels are favourites with William Hill at $1.45 but Canterbury still harbour hopes for the top eight albeit long range ones. Consistency has been a major struggle for the Bulldogs this year. After outclassing the Dragons in Round 14, then the bye, Canterbury then failed to beat the Warriors last week. How they go against the Eels will all depend on which Bulldogs side decides to show. They stand at $2.80 with William Hill.
Bet of the Match: Canterbury to Win by 1-12 points at $4
WATCH: Our Preview of Round 17 of the NRL
Brisbane Broncos v Melbourne Storm, Suncorp Stadium, Friday June 30, 7:50pm AEST
Many of the heroes of Queensland’s dramatic Origin Game 2 victory will face off against each other in Round 17 as Brisbane host the Storm at Suncorp Stadium for this top-four clash with 3rd taking on 1st. A rare loss last weekend against the Roosters sees the Storm heading to Brisbane with something to prove as they aim to cement their place at the top of the ladder. A youthful looking Storm side could not keep the same intensity throughout the match against Sydney. With so much talent at their disposal the Storm as are always a threat and edge the home side as favourites priced at $1.68 with William Hill. Brisbane are the form team out of these two, having won their last two matches and head into this clash at $2.20. The Broncos may well be aiming high to topple the league leaders but they need a win here to keep ahead of the chasing pack. Their place in the top four is under threat from both Manly and Cronulla on equal points on the ladder with them.
Bet of the Match: Melbourne to Win by 1-12 points at $3.00
Sydney Roosters v Cronulla Sharks, Central Coast Stadium, Saturday July 1, 3pm AEDT
On the back of their dramatic golden-point comeback victory against Melbourne, the Roosters now face the challenge of last year’s Premiers Cronulla. Sydney will be aiming to keep the pressure on as they go in search of a possible minor premiership as they sit two points from the top of the ladder. Three wins in a row sees them gaining form heading into the latter stages of the year. William Hill edges them as favourites to beat the Sharks priced at $1.72. Cronulla still harbour realistic hopes of winning back-to-back titles and sit on the cusp of the top four. A win here against Sydney would make a huge statement for the remaining Rounds of 2017. Last weekend’s loss to Manly has dented their form but having retained much of the squad from last year they still have plenty of potential. They stand at $2.15.
