Round One had all the excitement, big collisions, and a little bit of the biff that you’d expect from the NRL.The early Friday night kick off was one test in the opening week that divided fans but that will continue for the near future and with the quality of rugby league on show, supporters are sure to get behind it. Looking ahead to Round Two, the competition just gets fiercer with mouth-watering ties across the weekend.
WATCH: Our Preview of Round 2 of the NRL
Sydney Roosters v Canterbury Bulldogs, Allianz Stadium, Thursday March 9, 8:05pm AEDT
Kicking off the weekend on Thursday night, the Sydney Roosters host the Canterbury Bulldogs. Sydney head into this fixture with plenty of confidence after a thrilling win in Round One over the Titans. Their second-half performance, however, raised question marks about the side’s ability to close out games against the top teams. They will face a stern examination from the Bulldogs who will be looking to bounce back after a narrow loss in horrendous conditions to the Storm. Canterbury made the Finals last season despite a dip in form at the end of the year but will need to pick up their game if they are to contend again this year. William Hill prices the Roosters at $1.45 compared to the Bulldogs at $2.75.
Bet of the Match: Sydney to Win by 1-12 points at $3.00
Brisbane Broncos v North Queensland Cowboys, Suncorp Stadium, Friday March 10, 8:05pm AEDT
The all-Queensland derby of the Broncos and Cowboys rarely fails to deliver as a spectacle. William Hill are unable to separate either side in this match with both priced at $1.90 for the win. Both sides enter this match up after victory in Round One. The Broncos cruised past the current Premiers Cronulla away from home while it took a slice of luck for the Cowboys to overcome the Raiders in golden point extra time. Neither side will want to take a backward step at Suncorp and this has the makings of the match of the weekend. While this match won’t make or break a season, local bragging rights are vitally important.
Bet of the Match: North Queensland to Win by 1-12 points at $3.60
Canberra Raiders v Cronulla Sharks, GIO Stadium, Saturday March 11, 7:30pm AEDT
The two sides who lost out to the all-Queensland clash sides in Round One, Canberra and Cronulla, meet this weekend. Both of these sides will have high aspirations for this season and losing in the opening round will have only dented their pride and forced them to work harder. The reigning premiers, the Sharks, have had a huge fall from grace with many not expecting them to achieve anything in 2017. That will surely only harden their resolve to want to prove pundits wrong and challenge to retain their title. Against the Broncos, they were outclassed at times but fought back whilst the Raiders went toe to toe with the Cowboys. Canberra once again appear a side that can go far this year but they must start to produce on the pitch. The agony of last week’s loss will see them fired up for this clash.
