Five rounds into the 2018 season and the NRL ladder looks a little different to last few seasons. With the Tigers, Knights, Warriors and Titans all in the top eight whilst previous front runners like the Cowboys, Eels, Raiders and Broncos languish in the lower half. There is a long way to go but what an incredible start to the season.
Sydney Roosters v South Sydney Rabbitohs
Thursday 12th April, 7.50pm, Allianz Stadium
Both of these sides enter this clash searching for some consistency in their performances. The rivalry that exists puts even more on this game than the two points on the ladder. The Roosters warmed up for this match with an emphatic win over Cronulla in Round 5. They ran in five tries as their attacking begins to take shape, although it is a concern it has taken this long to gel. They stand at $1.35.
South Sydney’s best hopes for this match will be put that attack under pressure just as they did against St George last week. The Rabbitohs pushed the Dragons all the way and almost produced a remarkable victory. They will have to once again be at their best if they are to overturn a price of $3.20.
Bet of the Match – Sydney to Win by 1-12 points at $2.88
St George Illawarra Dragons v Cronulla Sharks
Friday 13th April, 7.50pm, WIN Stadium
The Dragons sit atop the NRL ladder with a perfect five from five record this season. Their most recent victory was a hard fought 16-12 win over South Sydney. Despite the close score line in the long run, it is games like that were hard work and determination get the result that could benefit them. St George are favourites at $1.50 coming into this match.
Cronulla’s momentum came crashing back to earth last weekend as they were easily beaten by the Roosters. Prior to that they had produced wins against the Storm and Eels, but inconsistency struck again as it did so often last season. The Sharks would love to be ones to end the Dragons 100% record and stand at $2.60 to do so.
Bet of the Match – St George to Win by 13+ points at $3
Manly Sea Eagles v Wests Tigers
Sunday 15th April, 4.10pm, Lottoland
This match is shaping up as the closest of the Round with only 20c separating the two sides. Manly edge Wests as favourites despite the Tigers recent form with the Sea Eagles at $1.75. Last weekend was a disappointing one though for the Sea Eagles as they went down to the Titans 32-20. They will be looking for a big response back home at Lottoland.
Remarkably Wests are priced at $2.05, even though they have been one of the surprise packages of the season. Two wins over the Storm already plus a win over the Roosters highlights the threat that they can be. Manly will have to be wary of Tigers side looking to make an impact this year.
Bet of the Match – Wests to Win by 1-12 points at $3.25
