Manly Sea Eagles v Sydney Roosters, Lottoland, Sunday August 6, 2pm AEST
All of Manlys impressive early season form will be for nothing if they can’t rediscover it. Since looking like genuine title contenders, they have dramatically dropped off. Back to back losses against the Dragons and Storm, mean they are desperate for a win this weekend against the Roosters.
Those two losses have seen them fall from 3rd on the ladder to their current position of 7th. A tough run of matches for the Sea Eagles will come to an end with a much more winnable game against the Tigers in Round 23. They, however, need a morale boosting performance after the two recent humiliations.
It will take a monumental effort but Manly do have the capability to spring a surprise and overturn a price of $2.08 with William Hill. The Roosters, meanwhile, continue their effort to chase down the Storm in 1st place. Three straight wins has seen them close the gap at the top to two points as they chase a Minor Premiership.
A gutsy win against North Queensland will have given the Roosters plenty of confidence and they will not fear making the trip to Brookvale. Sydney will be out for revenge after going down the last time these two sides met earlier in the season, when Manly were victors 18-12. They are priced at $1.77 with William Hill to claim the victory this weekend. They will have to be wary of a backlash from the Sea Eagles.
Bet of the Match: Manly to Win by 1-12 points at $3.30
Penrith Panthers v Wests Tigers, Pepper Stadium, Sunday August 6, 4pm AEST
Ultimately Penrith’s Finals fate is out of their hands. They are relying on sides above them dropping points but what they can do, is keep winning games. They’ve won their last four matches to keep up the pressure on the teams above them in the top eight.
Now they sit on level points on the ladder with the 8th placed Dragons but need to continue their form. Round 22 could be seen by many as routine victory against the Tigers but they will have to be wary of a side with nothing to play for. The Panthers comfortably dispatched of Wests back in Round 2, 36-2, and will be confident of doing so again. They are priced at $1.30 with William Hill for the win.
That Round 2 humiliation will no doubt be on the minds of the Tigers players as they look to salvage some pride from a disappointing 2017. A solid win over the Titans last weekend will see Wests come into this clash with plenty of belief.
On paper this a side that should be in a much higher position than 15th on the ladder. Names on the team sheet count for nothing though if they aren’t performing on the field. They will need a huge performance here against the Panthers if they are to cause an upset. They stand at $3.60 to cause an upset with William Hill.
