Preview: NFL Week Sixteen: New York Giants @ Philadelphia Eagles
Time and Date: Friday December 23, 12:25pm AEDT
Venue: Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia
TV: Live on ESPN
Eli Manning and the New York Giants are almost certainly headed back to the playoffs for the first time since they won the Super Bowl in 2012.
For the Eagles, Thursday night’s game against the New York Giants is the first game they’ll play after being mathematically eliminated from playoff contention on Sunday in Baltimore.
The best the Eagles can do over the last two weeks against New York and Dallas is play spoiler. But these games mean so much more than that. They’ll take pride in being able to shape the playoffs against the top two teams in their division.
The Eagles have had their ups, starting 3-0 and they’ve had their downs, losing five in a row dating back to the November 20 meeting with Seattle.
If the Giants are to win their division then they’ll probably need to win both their remaining games and to achieve that they’ll need to rely on the same short passing game and stout run defense that put the game in the hands of Cowboys rookie quarterback Ezekiel Elliott in two wins over Dallas this season — their rival’s only two losses this season.
Eagles rookie quarterback Carson Wentz looked shaky under pressure on Sunday against the Ravens and will not get much of a break against Olivier Vernon and Jason Pierre-Paul.
The Giants knocked the Eagles off 28-23 back in Week 9 and I’m backing them achieve the same result here. The Eagles have lost six games by under seven points this season so the line bet could also be worth a nibble.
