Pyeongchang Men’s Ice Hockey Finals: Preview, Odds and Best Bets

Fri, Feb 23, 1:38am by Staff Writer

After a stunning finish to the women’s Olympic Ice Hockey competition yesterday with the United States defeating Canada 3-2 to win Gold, its first since the 1998 Nagano games, we are now at the business end of the tournament for the men.

With quarter finals completed on Wednesday, we are ready for semi finals which will be played Friday with the four countries remaining in the competition being the Czech Republic, Canada, Germany and the Olympic Athletes from Russia (OAR).

Czech Republic vs OAR

The Czech Republic head into the first semi final of the competition fresh off their quarter final victory over the United States 3-2 which was decided in a penalty shootout.

They face an OAR team who enter the semi finals after a dominant quarter final performance against Norway, comprehensively winning 6-1.

In 2-way match betting for the contest, OAR are an overwhelming $1.16 favourite entering the clash, with the Czech Republic available at $4.50.

Outside their opening game slip-up against Slovakia where they lost 3-2, OAR have been the dominant force of the men’s Olympic competition scoring 20 goals and conceding six throughout their four matches.

Expect a clear victory for OAR against a competitive Czech Republic outfit.

Suggested Bet: OAR – Russia (-1.5) (Handicap Betting) @ $1.78

Canada v Germany

The Canadians’ 3-2 loss to the Czech Republic, which was decided in a penalty shootout, may have been a blessing in disguise for them as their 1-0 victory over Finland in the quarter finals showed that they can really dig deep under pressure as illustrated by their third period goal to seal their place in the final four.

Germany have been impressive all tournament and their first time Olympic triumph against Sweden in the semi finals put them in a great position to win their first medal in the sport since West Germany claimed a bronze in the 1976 Innsbruck winter games.

In 2-way match betting for the contest, Canada enters the game a prohibitive $1.14 favourite to proceed to the final with Germany available at $5.00.

Expect the reigning Olympic champions Canada to find it tough to get past a German outfit who were not expected to reach the semi finals. A narrow victory for the Canadians looks quite a possibility in this one.

Suggested Bet: Canada by 1 goal (60 Min Winning Margin) @ $6.00

Outright Betting

OAR $1.70

Canada $2.65

Czech Republic $8.50

Germany $31.00
