The Rabbitohs take their home game to the far north this weekend and will treat rugby league fans in Cairns to a taste of NRL action.
They take on the Titans in a matchup between two teams coming off a bye, and it looks like a good game to bet on. Teams can have a propensity of either thriving from the break or coming back a little flat. Attitude will be all important here.
Despite the Rabbitohs sitting in first place and winning four of their last five, they are no longer premiership favourites. Due to the form of Melbourne, the Rabbitohs have drifted to $4.00 after their week off. They also look to be value in head to head, margin and line betting markets here.
The Gold Coast Titans are coming off two wins prior to their freshen up, but meet a different class of team here. With teams breathing down their neck, a win is imperative if they wish to cement a top eight position. Bookies look a little undecided on the Titans too, and currently have them at $34.
The Rabbitohs welcome back their State of Origin trio of Inglis, Ben Te’o and Chris McQueen this week, with Nathan Merritt moving back to the wing and Bryson Goodwin back into the centres in place of Beau Champion. Sam Burgess is also back which means an entirely new back row from the side that beat Newcastle a fortnight ago with Te’o and McQueen alongside him.

We are more than half way through the 2013 NRL regular season and the Rabbitohs have lost just two games. South Sydney fans are declaring more confidently each week that this is the year for their team. For those of us who like a bet, the Rabbitohs are proving a very profitable venture. In fact, if you fancy them to win the competition, I’d suggest taking the $4.00 on offer now as I can’t see them drifting in the market any time soon.

The South Sydney side proved they could still get the job done without their origin with a solid 25-18 win over the Knights two weeks ago. Given their hot form over a long period the Rabbitohs look sensational value in the head to head market here.
The Gold Coast also welcome back three players from Origin with Greg Bird, Nate Myles and Ashley Harrison all back in the starting 13. Their return sees Ryan James, Luke Douglas and Dave Taylor drop back to the bench with Mark Ioane, Jamie Dowling and Shane Gray out of the squad.

The Titans may well be the side who is under the radar this season. They are enjoying a nice little run of form and quietly sneaking their way back into top four contention. If you’re the type of bettor who likes the look of this Gold Coast outfit, there’s some tasty odds on offer in the H2H, margin and line betting markets for you here.
With three wins from their last four matches there’s no denying that the Titans are in winning form. A closer inspection will reveal that those three wins have all been against sides placed twelfth or lower and that they were beaten by twenty eight points in the other game by the Broncos. They rise steeply in class here which is a big concern if you’re thinking of having a bet.
With both teams coming off a one week break there are no excuses for players not being ready to go. With key players backing up from State of Origin it should be of great assistance to both outfits. If either side turn up to this game a little flat, they could be left behind very quickly.
The heat of Cairns is also a vital factor in this match. Fitness will prove to be a telling factor in the last twenty minutes of the match so if you’re keen on a bet, keep in mind where the game is being played.
The Titans will need to try and win the battle in the forwards to try and thwart any opportunities that the entertaining Rabbitohs back line may be afforded. If they don’t we can expect to see the likes of Greg Inglis and Nathan Merritt run amok.
When lining this game up I found one big factor that separates these two teams; class. The South Sydney squad simply ooze it while the Titans, who obviously boast plenty of talent, may not quite be in the same category class wise. The Rabbitohs record speaks for itself and I think we can make money by backing them again this week.
Rabbitohs by 16.
Rabbitohs – $1.33 Head to Head with IASbet.com
Titans – $3.45
I thought the South Sydney side would be a lot shorter in this market and I think that this looks the best bet of the week at this price. I’d be quite happy to load up here on what looks a put in/take out proposition.
Rabbitohs 1-12 – $3.00
Rabbitohs 13+ – $2.30 with IASbet.com
Titans 1-12 – $4.33
Titans 13+ – $8.50
I’d be reasonably confident taking the $2.30 about the Rabbitohs winning by at least thirteen in this match. They have shown they can put teams to the sword in the twinkling of an eye and this may follow that trend.
Rabbitohs -8.5: $1.92 with IASbet.com
Titans +8.5 – $1.92
This line looks a favorable one for those of us who enjoy spread betting. I think the Rabbitohs will cover the line here with consummate ease and we can have a win on this market.
For the first try scorer of the match I cannot go past the most prolific of modern day try scorers, Nathan Merritt who is currently good value at $8.00 with IASbet.
If you’d prefer a Titan to score first, my suggestion would be Albert Kelly who is at the very nice odds of $23.
I also think there is some value for the Rabbitohs 11-20 in the IASbet “Alternate Winning Margin 1” market where they are currently $4.20.
