Sydney racing was originally scheduled for Warwick Farm this weekend but with ‘extreme hot weather’ forecast in Western Sydney on Saturday the meeting has been transferred to Randwick – its fourth meeting since Boxing Day. The rail is in the true position and the track – whilst a soft-5 at acceptances – should be in the good range come race day.
Race eight is a BM94 over 1400m with nine to line up. Lanciato ($5) is second-up after an eye-catching third to Drachenfels – beaten 0.4L – when fresh and he drops 8kg from that run. He won his two starts before that and with Blake Shinn to ride on Saturday, he’ll jump from barrier nine.
Noire ($1.90) has won five of her nine career starts and is looking for four straight this campaign. Last start she beat Pecans who has franked that form with a G3 Belle of the Turf (1600m) win since. She’s joined by stable mate So Willie ($12) who is one win and two minors from four first-up attempts.
Coolring ($8) has top weight of 59.5kg but he gets the 2kg claim of apprentice James Innes Jnr while stable mate Show A Star ($14) is a new addition to the Bjorn Baker stables having changed trainers a few times since beginning his career under Gai Waterhouse.
Race five is a BM85 over the famous Randwick mile. Cellarman ($2.30) has won three of his past five and he jumps from barrier one on Saturday. Positive Problems ($5.50) is racing in good spirit this prep with a win three starts back, a third to Pecans and Sedanzer last start with a fourth to Noire wedged in between those two runs – and she’s been supported in early markets for Saturday. Caerless Choice ($5) won the Muswellbrook Cup (1500m) two starts back with a fourth to Cellarman last start while Medaille ($4.20) is second-up from her trial back in early December. The Godolphin mare has won two from three when second-up plus she’ll get the services of Hugh Bowman who returns from a break and recent riding stint in Japan.
The opening race of the day – a 1400m BM76 – is an interesting little affair albeit with only the six runners. Scream Park ($3.40) is looking for three-in-a-row for Chris Waller and is joined by stable mate Calculated ($3.60) who has two placings from his two starts this campaign. Barbeque ($5.50) has won two of his three career starts. Echo Jet ($15) and Island Missile ($8.50) have also won twice but from five career starts each while Aqua D’ivina ($3.90) is well bred (Pierro x Aqua D’Amore) and comes into this off a maiden win at Wyong before Christmas when a short odds-on favourite, and she’s another who has attracted early betting action.
Suggested Bet: Noire is building a strong record and her most recent form reads well but going to give Lanciato ($5, race eight, number eight) a go here. He flashed home when first-up after missing the start and with the weight relief – including Rachel King’s claim – and the extra distance, he’s worth a gamble.
