Real Madrid heavily favoured against the hosts, Kashima Antlers

Preview: FIFA Club World Cup Final: Real Madrid v Kashima Antlers

Date and Time: Sunday December 18, 9:30pm AEDT

Venue: International Stadium, Yokohama, Japan

TV: Live on Fox Sports

The final of the FIFA Club World Cup sees host club Kashima Antlers take on European champions Real Madrid in the first-ever meeting between the two sides, an encounter in which the tournament’s surprise packets will meet a team who haven’t lost in eight months.

After dispatching Mexican side, Club America 2-0 in the semi-final, Real Madrid are $1.12 favourite to win their second Club World Cup in three years. They will meet the hosts of the tournament, Kashima Antlers in the final after the Japanese club were the surprise winners of their semi-final against Colombian outfit Atletico Nacional. The hosts are $19 to upset the European champions.

Leaders in La Liga by a comfortable margin, the European’s go into the final buoyed by a 36-match unbeaten run that stretches back to April and by their superb finishing. So far this season, they have racked up 72 goals.

Having made full recoveries from injuries, Casemiro and Toni Kroos will patrol the midfield alongside Luka Modric, the player of the match in the semi-final win over Club America.

Facing them will be the local team, who have earned worldwide admiration in battling their way to the final. Just two weeks ago, their chances of winning the J1 League title and the Club World Cup ticket that came with it were being written off.

But they got it done and now Masatada Ishii’s charges have done the host nation proud. First up, they saw off Auckland City in their opening match, then they beat African champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the second round, which was followed by a stunning upset against Copa Libertadores holders, Atletico Nacional, in the semi-final.

I’m backing Los Blancos to win both halves with likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema providing their customary cutting edge up front.

Suggested Bet: Real Madrid to win both halves: $1.66
