Saturday’s racing action at Rosehill Gardens sees a nine race card headlined by the 1400m Octagonal Handicap.
The track is set to soft at a rating 5 with overcast conditions expected and the rail out 6m.
Race 8’s Octagonal Handicap features a field of 15 thoroughbreads with the market led by the Jason Collett ridden Noire at $4.20. Coming off a fourth placing at Royal Randwick over 1400m, finishing strong after not having the best start, shouldn’t have the same issue this time around.
Closely priced behind Noire is $4.60 chance Crafty Cop. With an impressive front running win in his previous start, also at Rosehill with Brendon Avdulla on the saddle, may adopt a similar strategy with his wide barrier draw. Kerrin McEvoy set to take the reins this weekend with Avdulla on board third favourite Special Missile.
At $5 and coming off two back to back second placings, Avdulla will hope to go one better, drawn barrier 2 which should see him on the speed from the outset.
Other chances in the the field include Mister Sea Wolf ($7), New Universe ($11) and Mighty Lucky ($23).
Race 7’s Sydney’s West App Handicap over 1500m has two clear cut favourites in the field of 12.
I Am Serious ($2.7) leads the market and from nine starts to date has an imposing 6-1-1 record, coming off an impressive victory at Rosehill over 1,400m on May 19 which followed a surprising 7th placing in her previous outing a fortnight earlier. James McDonald will be on board the mare.
Kiwi runner Seaway ($3.3) will present a great challenge to I Am Serious and with a three length win at Canterbury Park two races ago at 1,550m, should fancy himself at the distance. Tye Angland will take the reins this weekend.
Other runners to consider in the field include Medaille ($9.5) and Monasterio ($11).
The remainder of the card features some exciting line ups with major chances to consider in the other races including Ronstar ($4.4) in Race 1, Charlayne ($4.8) in Race 4 and La Chica Bella ($5.50) in Race 6.
Suggested Bet: Crafty Cop to win (Race 8) @ $4.60
