Heading into week 4 and the Quarter Final stages of the Rugby League World Cup things are heating up. Tonga fired out a warning to the top nations as they secured an incredible victory over New Zealand. Whilst Australia, Fiji and Papua New Guinea completed the Pool stages with perfect records ahead of the knockouts.
All of the sides now have better understanding of their path to the Final and with their loss to Tonga, things have got increasingly difficult for New Zealand. They face Fiji in the Quarter Finals and are now in the same half of the draw as favourites Australia. Meaning the Kiwis have slipped to $10 from $8 to win the tournament.
They will come out firing against Fiji after losing to Tonga, but they would have much preferred to wait until the Final to play the Kangaroos. Fiji are priced at $51 after they navigated the Poll stages with ease winning all their matches.
Australia cruised past Lebanon as expected and now face a trip to Darwin to take on Samoa. The Kangaroos were able to experiment with their side and still get the results in games against France and Lebanon, but they will no doubt unleash the big guns to get past Samoa.
Although the Samoans have not won a game yet at the World Cup, reaching the Quarters courtesy of a draw with Scotland and better points difference. Australia stand at $1.25 to win back to back World Cups, with Samoa a long shot at $501.
On the other half of the draw Tonga play Lebanon and England face a tough task against a rampant Papua New Guinea side. Having beaten France to record their first ever World Cup victory, Lebanon are treated to a test against Tonga, who will be looking to build on the back of the win over the Kiwis and make a real statement at this World Cup.
Tonga are priced at $9 to win the World Cup, whilst Lebanon will need a miracle to overturn odds of $1001. England have steadily improved after their opening loss to Australia to kick off the tournament. They now need to show that they can do it when the pressure is on. PNG will be a real test for them as they convincingly reached the Quarters with some emphatic displays in the Pools.
Out of all the Quarter Finals this could be the closest and the most likely to see an upset. England stand at $9 to win the World Cup with PNG at $151.
