Samoa and Tonga are lining up to steal the show with their all Pacific Island clash in New Zealand on Saturday. Across the rest of the weekend though there is lots of opportunities to get involved with Week 2 of the Rugby League World Cup.
New Zealand v Scotland, Saturday 4th November, 3pm AEDT, Christchurch
The Kiwis are favourites to challenge Australia for World Cup glory. They overcame what was a potential slip up last week as they took on Samoa. In that match New Zealand simply had too much power, pace and accuracy for the Samoans to deal with. They will need to be at their best again when they take on a Scotland side aiming to bounce back from a thrashing from Tonga. The Kiwis stand as clear favourites at $1.002 compared to Scotland at $41. Yet in the back of the minds of both sides of players will be the historic draw that the Braveheart’s claimed against the Kiwis in the last Four Nations. That scenario stands at $56 for this match.
Bet of the Match – Jason Nightingale to Score 2 or More Tries at $2.80
England v Lebanon, Saturday 4th November, 8pm AEDT, Sydney
Fresh from their heroics last week securing a first ever World Cup win, Lebanon will need to be at their best if they are to challenge England. That win over France has set them up perfectly for the remainder of the World Cup with all pressure off them. Priced at $17 it is the longest odds ever, whilst England stand at $1.02. With fixtures against England and Australia to come, they can play with lots of freedom. For so long England have struggled to compete with both the Kangaroos and Kiwis but in their opening match against Australia they showed great promise. This should be a routine victory for England, but Lebanon will certainly be keen to ask questions of a side who could go all the way to the Final. The loss of Sam Burgess could affect England’s forward pack, although they have more than enough willing runners in their squad.
Bet of the Match – Alex Walmsley to Score a Try and England to Win at $4
Papua New Guinea v Ireland, Sunday 5th November, 5pm AEDT, Port Moresby
Ireland stunned the Italians in Week 1 as they ran away worthy victors in their opening game. They were able to contain an Italy side with several key NRL players in it. Things don’t get any easier for the Irish as they now travel to take on PNG, who opened their World Cup with the thrashing of Wales. Ireland were able to minimise the effect of the heat in Cairns, but they will face a similar challenge in Port Moresby, coupled with a fanatical home crowd. Liam Finn will have to match his Week 1 exploits if Ireland are to overturn a price of $6 whilst PNG look good with David Mead leading from the front priced at $1.15.
