Round four of Super Rugby did not disappoint, with the Hurricanes prevailing in the match of the round against the Crusaders on Saturday night.
The Crusaders ($3.60) remain favourites to win the competition at Sportsbet, with the Hurricanes ($3.75) hot on their heels.
The Hurricanes got off to a blistering start in Wellington, leading 21-0 after 25 minutes.
The Crusaders were never out of the match though, and despite a number of players leaving the game through injury, battled back to 26-19 and could have been even closer if not for some costly errors.
On Friday night the Highlanders were not as impressive as their 33-15 scoreline against the Stormers would have many believe.
That match was full of turnovers and errors from both teams and certainly not an advertisement for either teams style of play.
The Highlanders ($6.50) are third favourites to take out this season’s Super Rugby title at Sportsbet, but will need to lift their game if they are to even get close.
In South Africa, the Lions suffered a shock loss to the Blues after the siren.
Last season’s grand finalists looked to be in control for much of the match, before a furious Blues rally saw them win 38-35.
That win was important for the Blues, as it was their first win of the season and keeps them in touch of the top teams in the New Zealand conference.
The Lions are the best backed South African team at Sportsbet at $6.50 to win the competition, with the Blues $19 outsiders and the longest odds of all of the New Zealand teams.
The Melbourne Rebels have continued their strong start to the season with a dominant 33-10 win against the Brumbies on Friday night.
The historic 3-0 start for the Rebels has pushed them into favouritism to win the Australian conference and they are $14 to win the competition at Sportsbet.
The Brumbies have had a terrible start to the season, with only a narrow win against the lowly Sunwolves.
They will be looking forward to upcoming home matches, as all three of their games this season have been on the road.
The Brumbies are a whopping $51 to win Super Rugby this season at Sportsbet.
The Queensland Reds won consecutive matches for the first time since 2014 with a narrow 20-14 win against the Bulls on Saturday night.
Neither the Bulls ($41) or the Reds ($67) are expected to trouble the top teams in Super Rugby and are long odds to win the Grand Final.
The Waratahs had a shocking start against the Jaguares in Argentina, falling behind 26-0 and never recovering.
It was a disappointing display from the Tahs, who had battled so admirably in Durban just a week prior against the Sharks.
A first win of the season for the Jaguares has done little to instill faith in punters that they are the real deal, with the Argentinian team $201 to win the title.
The Waratahs are the second best backed Australian team at $17 and are in good shape to mount a challenge to the Rebels, given Melbourne’s tough remaining schedule. The two teams will meet on Sunday afternoon.
The Japanese Sunwolves were blitzed by the Sharks on Sunday morning and find themselves winless from three matches.
