Following the 1st legs of the Europa League semi-finals, it is Marseille who have the upper hand over Red Bull Salzburg. Whilst there was nothing to separate Arsenal and Atletico Madrid who battled to a 1-1 draw.
Atletico Madrid v Arsenal, Friday 4th May, 5.05am (AEST)
Antoine Griezmann salvaged a vital away goal for tournament favourites Atletico Madrid in the 1st leg. His goal cancelled out Alexandre Lacazette’s opening goal as the Spanish side put themselves in a positive position to reach the Final. This was achieved even with Atletico down to 10 men for much of the game as Sime Vrsaljko was sent off in the opening ten minutes for two yellow cards.
Atletico will be confident of getting the better of Arsenal with home ground advantage especially as they stand at $1.67 to win on the night. They boast an impressive attacking front of Grizemann and Diego Costa who caused Arsenal a number of problems in the 1st leg.
For Arsenal this could be the end of an era as their long serving manager, Arsene Wenger leaves at the end of the season. They will want to send him off with some silverware and the Europa League remains their only hope after crashing out of the FA Cup, League Cup and being well of the pace in the EPL. If they can ride their emotions, then they do possess the talent to overturn a price of $5.
Bet of the Match – Atletico to Win 2-1 at $7.50
Red Bull Salzburg v Marseille, Friday 4th May, 5.05am (AEST)
RB Salzburg are looking to be the first Austrian team to win the Europa League, but face an uphill struggle after a 2-0 defeat in France. Throughout this season’s tournament, they have been impressive recording victories over Lazio and Borussia Dortmund in previous rounds. Their credentials will truly be put to the test though as they try to overturn that deficit. They stand as favourites on the night at $2, although they would have to produce an incredible performance to qualify for the Final.
Dimitri Payet proved his worth in the 1st leg as provided the service for both of Marseille’s goals. It was Florian Thauvin and Clinton Njie who scored the crucial goals, but Payet was at the centre of everything that Marseille produced. He will undoubtedly be a targeted man by Salzburg as Marseille try to reach the Final. They are priced at $3.40 to win the 2nd leg.
Bet of the Match – Draw 1-1 at $6.50
