The Ultimate Fighting Championship heads to Canada this weekend for a UFC on Fox card at Calgary’s Scotiabank Saddledome on Sunday morning and afternoon AEST.
The scheduled main event will be a lightweight rematch between two of the divisions finest, #3 Eddie Alvarez and #4 Dustin Poirier.
Alvarez and Poirier first met at UFC211 in May 2017 where the fight came to an early finish after Alvarez dropped Poirier with illegal knees in the second round causing the fight to be ruled a no contest.
Since then, Alvarez has appeared once in the octagon, scoring a third round KO victory over Justin Gaethje last December while Poirier has scored consecutive TKO wins over Anthony Pettis last November and Justin Gaethje in April.
Poirier heads into the bout a clear $1.57 favourite with former champion Alvarez rated a $2.41 chance.
In the co-main event Jose Aldo will be out to get back in the winner’s column where he does battle with Jeremy Stephens in their featherweight clash.
The number two ranked inaugural UFC featherweight champion Aldo will enter the octagon against an opponent not named Max Holloway for the first time since July 2016 when he defeated Frankie Edgar to win the interim featherweight title. His next two bouts were both to Holloway, last June and December where he was defeated on both occasions via third round TKO to punches.
Stephens, ranked number four in the division will head into the clash on a three fight win streak, recording wins this year against Gilbert Melendez, Doo Ho Choi and Josh Emmett.
Aldo will enter the bout a $1.76 favourite with Stephens a $2.07 chance.
Completing the main card to the 13 bout event, former strawweight women’s champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk will take on Tecia Torres and lightweights Alexander Hernandez and Olivier Aubin-Mercier will do battle.
With Poirier and Alvarez so close to a title shot, with only Tony Ferguson, Conor McGregor and champion Khabib Nurmagomedov sitting above them within the division, both fighters will put it all on the line come fight time.
The better bet on this card looks to be the Aldo – Stephens bout with the latter’s activity and momentum within the division seeing his $2.07 respectable value in this bout.
Suggested Bet: Jeremy Stephens to win @ $2.41
