Week 1 JLT Community Series: Preview, Odds and Best Bets

Fri, Feb 23, 1:55am by Staff Writer

After last weekend’s AFLX tournaments across Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney, we return to conventional Aussie Rules football with the commencement of the pre-season JLT Community Series this weekend.

There are four scheduled games for this weekend. A further two midweek games will follow next week on Wednesday and Thursday.

Teams competing this weekend include reigning premiers Richmond, last season’s minor premiers the Adelaide Crows, Melbourne and Port Adelaide, with games to be played at a variety of AFL grounds that don’t see home and away season fixtures.

North Melbourne Kangaroos vs Melbourne Demons

The Kangaroos and the Dees kick off the JLT Community Series this Saturday afternoon which will be played at the Kingston Twins Ovals in Hobart.

The two sides met each other in the Melbourne AFLX series last Friday night where the Dees defeated the Kangaroos 70-46 in their Pool A match en route to their Grand Final victory against Hawthorn 56-46 later in the evening.

The Demons enter Saturday’s clash a clear $1.49 favourite with the Kangaroos available at $2.65.

With Hobart being the Kangaroos’ second home, they would like to put on a performance in front of their Tassie fans.

A close encounter may be in store here and the tri-bet options are worth considering.

Suggested Bet: Either team under 24.5 points (Tri Bet 24.5) @ $1.80

West Coast Eagles v Port Adelaide Power

The last time these two sides met was in the 2017 AFL season’s first elimination final where the Eagles managed to defeat the Power in extra time at the Adelaide Oval.

This time they meet with a great deal less on the line and will meet at the Leederville Oval in Leederville, Perth for their first hit out for 2018.

Port Adelaide enter the contest a $1.73 favourite with West Coast paying $2.12 for the win.

With forward Josh Kennedy not available for the contest due to ankle surgery, the West Coast will unveil a newly structured forward line to cater for his absence which will be interesting to see.

Expect this game to be competitively fought out and Port Adelaide to record a narrow victory.

Suggested Bet: Port Adelaide 1-39 (Big Win Little Win) @ $2.30

JLT Week 1 Odds

 North Melbourne ($2.65) v Melbourne ($1.49)

Essendon ($2.65) v Richmond ($1.49)

Adelaide Crows ($1.40) v Fremantle ($2.96)

West Coast ($2.12) v Port Adelaide ($1.73)
