The seventh World Surf League Championship Tour event of the year, the Tahiti Pro, is taking place at Teauhupo’o in French Polynesia.
Brazilian Filipe Toledo hoping to extend his advantage atop the championship leader board with his second successive tour win this weekend.
Toledo has won two events this year, in Brazil and South Africa and holds more than a five-point lead over his nearest rival, Australia’s Julian Wilson.
His countryman, Gabriel Medina is the $4 favourite at Sportsbet to win the Tahiti Pro.
In round one, Medina was dominant as he scored 15.16, with his second wave scoring 7.83.
Toledo also performed well, with a 15.5 score and a second wave score of 8.50, blowing away the competition in his heat.
The event has suffered through a second straight lay day after third-round action was postponed due to poor swell.
When play resumes, Toledo takes on local hope Tikanui Smith.
Toledo is $1.28 to win the heat, with Smith a $3.50 shot.
There are six Australian’s in action during the third round with Owen Wright ($10) the best priced to win the Tahiti Pro among the Australian contingent.
Veteran Joel Parkinson is a $2.35 outsider against countryman Owen Wright, who won the Quiksilver Pro at the Gold Coast last year. Wright is $1.56 to beat Parkinson and $10 to win the Tahiti Pro.
Mikey Wright is $1.88 to win his heat against Yago Dora from Brazil in the ninth heat of the third round.
Central Coast native Adrian Buchan is a $1.98 outsider against Jeremy Flores in the second last heat of the day.
Wade Carmichael is a narrow favourite ($1.79) to defeat Brazilian Jesse Mendes ($1.98) in the third heat of the day.
Conor O’Leary is the biggest Australian outsider of the day at $2.50 when he takes on Michel Bourez ($1.50) in heat 10.
