Strikers look to avenge Monday’s loss to the Hurricanes

Thu, Jan 5, 11:10am by Head Editor

Preview: Adelaide Strikers v Hobart Hurricanes

Date and Time: Friday January 6, 7:40pm AEDT

Venue:  Adelaide Oval, Adelaide

TV: Live on Channel Ten

Adelaide meet Hobart for the second time in five days on Friday night at the Adelaide Oval. The hosts are currently sitting second from bottom and desperately need a win while the visitors are in fifth spot with two wins and two defeats.

Down in Hobart on Monday, the Hurricanes went on to claim a comfortable eight-wicket win, largely thanks to a superb spell from Dan Christian. The 33-year-old finished with five wickets for just 14 runs. Simon Milenko also claimed a couple of wickets while Stuart Broad and Clive Rose also did well with the ball.

Once again it was the ever-green Brad Hodge top-scoring with 55 for Adelaide after a decent start from Ben Dunk and a good contribution from Travis Head. However, the Strikers were bowled out for 143 runs on the final delivery of their innings.

Dunk, who has 153 runs in BBL 06, is $4 to top score for the Strikers here with Brad Hodge and Travis Head equal second picks at $4.50.

The chase proved to be an easy one with Tim Paine and D’Arcy Short sharing a 105-run stand for the opening wicket. The latter scored 60 off 39 deliveries while skipper Paine made 41 off 42. Kumar Sangakkara and George Bailey helped the Hurricanes complete the successful chase with 14 balls to spare.

Paine is the second highest run scorer in the BBL to date and is $3.75 to top score for the Canes in this one. Short is second pick at $4.

Head and Billy Stanlake were the pick of the bowlers for the Strikers, taking one wicket each proving to be very economical in their efforts as well. However, the same cannot be said about the rest of their bowlers.

Sportsbet has installed the hosts as $1.80 favourites to turn the tables on Monday’s result with the visitors at the nice odds of $2.

Hobart had no real issues in their last contest and will look to go about their job in a similar manner. Christian will be the danger man as far as their opposition are concerned.

Suggested Bet: Hurricanes to win: $2
