Sydney Thunder Betting

With the aggression of Jimmy Barnes and the looks of Bob Marley, Chris Gayle is close to impossible to stop once he gets on a roll with the bat. The 32-year-old was the first man to ever score an international T20 century, when he smashed against 117 off just 57 balls, including seven fours and ten sixes, against South Africa at the 2007 T20 World Cup. But most importantly the left-hander has taken the Big Bash League by storm over the first four weeks of the tournament. Gayle has scored 232 runs, including an unbeaten century against the Strikers, to be the top run-scorer of the competition to date. The problem is his teammates have a heavy reliance on him. Hopefully Gayle can get over his recent duck and rise to the occasion for his teammates.

Perth Scorchers Betting

He might be coming towards the end of his illustrious career, but there still aren’t too many more explosive batsmen than Herschelle Gibbs in the world. He plays the most outlandish strokes, like cutting fast bowlers for six or pulling off the front foot. The 37-year-old has played some awe-inspiring innings and achieved so much during his 15-year international career. None better than his 175 off 111 balls that helped South Africa win an extraordinary one-day match against Australian in 2006. The right-hander has such a good eye and is hard to stop once settled at the crease, which has been evident in his past few BBL innings. Gibbs has made 57, 38, 69 and 65 in his past four digs, but recently admitted he wants a century. Could Wednesday be his night?

Bet on Sydney Thunder vs Perth Scorchers

A team who started the tournament like Usain Bolt at the start of a 100m race but has slowed to a trot over recent rounds hosts a team who started trotting but is now steaming home like Makybe Diva in a Melbourne Cup.

The Thunder can put a heavy blame on the rain for their 17-run lost to the Sixers in the inaugural Sydney derby at ANZ Stadium. However they can also put a heavy blame on their batsmen, even though they only faced 5.3 overs. Chasing 47 runs for victory, three of their top four batsmen were dismissed for ducks, including Gayle who fell to Brett Lee in the first over. It was a shame because the Thunder bowlers were fantastic, especially Windies import Fidel Edwards who claimed 1-21 off four overs.

While the Thunder could be considered the team most out of form at the moment, Perth is definitely the most in-form unit, winning its past four games – convincingly. The Scorchers scorched the Strikers at home on Sunday night, recording an emphatic 42-run victory. The win was set up by a scintillating 102-run opening partnership between Herschelle Gibbs and Marcus North in the first innings. Then Michael Beer (1-22), Nathan Rimmington (2-18) and Brad Hogg (3-20) all conceded an average of less than six runs per over and helped bowl the Strikers out for 142.

Despite this match being played on the Thunder’s home turf, this one could get ugly. The Scorchers are the most lethal team in the tournament at the moment and they should prove that against the Thunder.
