After a long season, the finals have arrived, with a pair of knockout matches to look forward to this weekend.
Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory can sit back with their feet up on the couch this weekend, keeping an eye on the proceedings, knowing they’ll face the winners the following weekend.
Here’s the best bets for both the A-League Elimination Finals:
Brisbane Roar v Western Sydney Wanderers, Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane, Friday April 21. 7:50pm AEDT
Brisbane finished third in the A-League standings with 42 points, earning the right to face a Western Sydney side that finished with the lowest points total of any team to make the finals.

The Roar came back from a 3-1 deficit at the break to beat Wellington 4-3 at home on Sunday. Former Socceroo – Brett Holman – finally looks injury free and is hitting form at the right time. He’s scored three times in his last two games and is forming a fruitful partnership with a more recent Socceroo Jamie Maclaren.
The Wanderers’ defence looked shaky early in the season but has been better in recent times, allowing only four goals in the last six outings.
If the visitors are to cause a boilover then they’ll need more of the same from super-sub Brendon Santalab, the 34-year-old has hit the back of the net five times in the last month.
Brisbane will enter this game fresh, they’ve rested several of their stars of the last few weeks, including Thomas Broich who announced during the week that he’ll be retiring at the end of this season. He’s been a star for the club, winning three A-League titles since moving from German club Borussia Monchengladbach in 2010.
Suggested Bet: Roar to win: $2.10
Melbourne City v Perth Glory, AAMI Park, Melbourne, Sunday April 23. 7:00pm AEDT
Well, we can only hope that this Sunday’s knockout final is as good as last Sunday’s epic was in Perth when the hosts ran out 5-4 winners in one of the games of the season.
Although they lost that match, City still hung onto fourth place by goal difference ahead of this week’s opponent. They’ll go in as $1.90 favourites with that home ground advantage with the Glory at $3.60.
Perth will give themselves a good chance though, they’ve picked up a draw and a win from their last two games against City at this venue. If they are to see that continue then they’ll need to get the ball to reigning Johnny Warren Medallist – Diego Castro – whose been in brilliant touch again this season.
This City attack is the best in the league on their day, and you just know that Tim Cahill will be primed for his first final as a City player. Let’s not forget how well he did in November’s FFA Cup final, scoring the only goal.
I’m taking the experienced City line-up to get it done when it counts here. The $6.50 for Cahill to score the first goal looks juicy too.
Suggested Bet: City to win: $1.90
