Australia has reached the quarter finals of the 2011 Asian Cup and will play Iraq in a match that they should win. Australia has been in pretty good form during this tournament, without setting the world alight in the process. Their last match was a bit of a wake up call, where some would suggest they were lucky to walk away with all three points.
Australia’s group match results were 4-0 against minnows India, 1-1 with South Korea and 1-0 against Bahrain.
The Socceroos will take on Iraq who qualified second in their group behind Iran. They won their final group match against Korea DPR 1-0. Iraq have never been an easy team to play against, and Australia will have to play well if they want to progress. They’ll be without Brett Emerton who is suspended for this match. The pressure is on, because anything other than a tournament victory will be considered a failure here.
Australia vs Iraq Betting Markets
There are plenty of betting markets available for this match, as there always are in major Soccer competitions. You can bet on the half time leader, amount of goals scored, first goal scorer and plenty more.
A look at the odds on Centrebet Australia for the first goal scorer has Tim Cahill @ 5.00 and Harry Kewell at $6.00. I’d be more inclined to back Mile Jedinak @ $11.00 here who has scored in his past two matches for the Socceroos.

Iran were on fire in their group, topping it ahead of Australia’s opponent tonight Iraq. They’ll be very tough to beat here but they come up against a classy Korea Republic side who drew with Australia.
Iran won all three of their matches to take the maximum 9 points. The won 2-1, 1-0 and 3-0 against Iraq, Korea DPR and UAE respectively.
Korea Republic finished equal on points with Australia after 2-1, 1-1, 4-1 matches against Bahrain, Australia and India respectively. Their defense is something they’ll obviously want to look at after letting goals in, in each of their matches.
Iran vs Korea Betting Odds
Korea Republic: $2.17
Iran vs Korea Prediction
My tip is for Korea to get up in a very close match here. I don’t give it to them by much because I think these teams are evenly matched, especially with Iran in such good form. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Iran won though, because quite literally it could go either way. I have to give it to Korea Republic on class. I won’t be betting on this match, too close to call.
