Fulham v Blackburn Rovers Betting Preview – Saturday 5th March, 2011

Fri, Mar 4, 11:03am by Kevin Pitstock

The Fulham v Blackburn game feels a bit like one of those boxing title eliminators. The winner will look to be in a very decent position to secure another season in the Premier League. The loser is likely to be very anxious, with both of these sides four points above Wolves, the last team in the relegation zone. Neither side has the strongest support in the division, and climbing back into the top division would be hard for either side if they did suffer the dreaded drop, so there should be some pressure affecting the players here.

Fulham look to be on the way to being a typically steady and hard to beat Mark Hughes outfit, with just two defeats in 12 games since New Year’s Day. Their propensity to draw is remarkable, with 14 draws out of 28 league games so far, but they are a little more likely to grind out home wins, with just three losses so far at Craven Cottage. Clint Dempsey, who has 9 league goals so far, relishes this fixture and must be tempting as a first goal scorer bet – his current record is 4 in 4 against Rovers. Mark Hughes also has a good record against Blackburn since leaving. He hasn’t lost in four matches either and to complete facts with the figure 4, they have kept four clean sheets in a row at Craven Cottage in the Premier League.

Things are getting a little tense at Blackburn, where they are without a win in 5 matches. Things are particular alarming away, where they have conceded 11 goals in their last 3 – in league and Cup at Aston Villa, and most concerningly, 4 against bottom side Wigan. Capable midfielder David Dunn will miss this game having picked up an injury midweek. The concern for Rovers fans is that inexperienced manager – if not coach – Steve Kean is feeling the heat. He has said 10 more points will be needed to guarantee safety. It’s six defeats in seven on the road too, and 14 games as the away side sine Paul Robinson kept a clean sheet. The stats and performances suggest trouble is approaching fast.

Form certainly points to a Fulham home win, and there’s little from Blackburn to suggest they can turn things round quickly. Our prediction here is a 2-0 Fulham win and SportsBet Australia look generous with their $1.75 on a Fulham win.
