Liverpool v Wigan Athletic Betting Preview Saturday 12th February, 2011

Fri, Feb 11, 8:37am by Kevin Pitstock

Guess who have the best run of current form in the English Premier League? It’s none other than Liverpool. While their fans are no doubt ready to proclaim them as on the fast track back to the glory days of the 70’s and 80’s they may have to wait. They do seem to have rediscovered some element of consistency and solidity, and they do have a shot at a top six finish. Wigan’s aim is to just survive for another season under Roberto Martinez and they still look in a very dicey position, despite a victory last weekend.

Don’t read too much into Liverpool’s win at Chelsea. They are more vulnerable than before, and they were also trying to adapt to fit a not especially in-form Fernando Torres into their line up. However it did show no little commitment, a little quality and the ability to execute a gameplan. It also proves confidence goes along way. They now go into this game seeking their 5th win in a row and the four victories chalked up right now is the best current sequence in the Premier League. Raul Meireles, signed by Roy Hodsgon don’t forget, has now scored four times in five games and he seems to have developed that skill of breaking forward at the right time. The home form at Anfield is coming along pleasantly too – Kenny Dalglish has not tasted a home defeat yet. There’s still no sign of Andy Carroll making his debut though.

Wigan are still stuck in the bottom three despite their win over Blackburn Rovers – that was just their 3rd win at the DW Stadium this season, though they have picked up six draws there as well. Defensively they remain shaky though, – no team has conceded more goals at home in the Premier League than the Latics and they are more than capable of shipping five or six when thing go horribly wrong. Wigan only got their first win over Liverpool last season and are still looking for a win at Anfield. They just seem to be too fragile for situations like this.

Liverpool on the handicap offers a decent bet – go for them to overcome a 1 goal deficit at $2.00 with Centrebet. Match Prediction: Liverpool to win this 3-0.

Back Liverpool at $2.00 with a -1 goal start at Centrebet
