This a local derby between two of the less fashionable Premier League clubs. Wigan are stuck in the bottom three and will identify this as the sort of home game where they could grab three points – and perhaps the type they must if they aren’t to drop back into the Championship. While Blackburn are in the top half of the table, they could easily get dragged towards the bottom three with a couple of defeats. Manager Steve Kean does seem to have the faith of the new owners though, who have given him a decent contract, and even a little bit of money to spend.
Wigan Athletic Betting Preview
Roberto Martinez’s side are looking for their first Premier League win since Boxing Day, and that was a win at the bottom club Wolves. Defensively, they can’t keep clean sheets – the only one they managed in their last 10 games, was in the FA cup against Bolton. Their home form is also the wost in the division, with just two victories to keep the small but loyal fan base at the DW Stadium happy. They seem lightweight at both ends of the pitch, with just 22 goals and they let slip what could have been a big win late on at West Bromwich Albion. All the statistics say they may have terminal problems.
Blackburn Rovers Betting Preview
Rovers seem to have made a relatively good start under Steve Kean, but they have now lost their last two matches, albeit tricky ones at Aston Villa and at home to Spurs, where they came very close to equalising. They have now also lost their last three games on the road. Kean is still searching for a consistent score, with Nikola Kalinic leading the way with just four goals – he was on the bench for the midweek defeat by Spurs. With players like Christopher Samba happy to sign new contracts though, there seems to be no need for immediate concern. Historically, they have the edge in this fixture.
Wigan Athletic vs Blackburn Rovers Tip and Prediction
With neither side in the greatest of form, the draw is $3.30 with Sportingbet Australia and looks the one to be one. With Wigan’s vulnerable defence the most likely scoreline seems a 1-1 draw.
