Wolverhampton Wanderers v Tottenham Hotspur Betting Preview – Sunday 6th March, 2011

Sat, Mar 5, 8:23am by Kevin Pitstock

This looks an interesting match between Wolves, who are showing real signs they can survive in the Premier League, and Spurs, who are now in a real scrap with a revived Chelsea for a place in next season’s Champions League. Wolves lifted themselves off the bottom of the table last week and it’s even possible they can finally escape the bottom three. Tottenham are a point behind Chelsea in 5th place, and have played the same number of games as their London neighbours.

Wolves go into this game having thumped Blackpool at home 4-0 in their last match, but they do have injury problems in defence with no Michael Mancienne, Steven Mouyokolo and full-ack Ronald Zubar, which leaves them a little light of cover. However, they have been really strong at home in recent weeks. That victory over Blackpool was a third in four at their Molineux ground, with the others against Chelsea and Manchester United. They have tended to slip up against the “lesser” sides at home, rather than the big guns. They are also without Jamie O’Hara, who is on loan from Spurs. He’s been a useful signing and Wolves are keen to have him on a permanent basis. Striker Sylvain Ebanks-Blake scored twice last Saturday, ending a run of 11 matches without a goal.

Spurs have had something of a mini-break, having been without a game since February 22nd. They have had some warm weather training time in Dubai over the past month. Their last game was a surprise 3-1 defeat by Blackpool. They have the second leg of their Champions League last 16 match with AC Milan in midweek and so will not risk Rafael van der Vaart or Gareth Bale. Spurs away record is one of the best in the Premier League, with six wins and they have at least scored in the last nine of their away matches. Spurs found Wolves difficult to put away in their home meeting, they were one down with a quarter of an hour to go, but eventually ran out 3-1 winners, with the crucial second coming with just three minutes left.

Wolves have a real chance of an upset here with their good home record and Spurs facing a tough European game. We fancy a 2-1 Wolves win and Wolves look a very fair price at $3.00 with Sportsbet Australia.
