2014 State of Origin squads released – Punters going for Maroons

Tue, May 20, 2:06pm by Dominic Ciconte

Queensland State of OriginTHE punters have spoken.

If the early money is anything to go by in the 2014 State of Origin series, it’s going to be another big year for the men from Queensland.

After winning the last eight-straight Origin series, the Maroons have started as significant favourites for the series and that has not stopped the punters coming for them.‘s Andrew Brown confirmed that more than 70 per cent of all money wagered on the series winner is for Queensland.

“Our punters are giving the Blues considerably less hope of winning this year than what they did in 2013,” Brown said.

“Heading into game one last year, the Maroons were only marginal favourites for the series win and we were receiving more or less equal money for both sides.”

Since betting commenced on the 2014 series winner directly after game 3 last year, Queensland has been backed from $1.70 into $1.47. During the same period, the odds of New South Wales breaking a nine-year series drought have drifted from $2.15 to a current all-time high of $2.70.

Queensland is the clear-cut $1.45 at Sportingbet to win game one, with New South Wales $2.80.

Both NSW and Queensland released their squads for Game 1.
