A man playing poker at the Borgata Hotel Casino in Atlantic City has overcome 20 million to 1 odds to win a $1 million from a $5 bet.
Identified as Harold M. from Lakewood, his extraordinary win was made by making the three-card poker “6 Card Bonus” bet last Saturday afternoon at the Borgata.
In making the $5 bet, he then hit a royal straight flush of diamonds. He was dealt a 10, queen and ace of diamonds while the dealer’s hand had a nine, jack and king of diamonds.
According to casino officials, it’s the first time this bet has been hit at the Borgata.
It was also Harold’’s first time betting at this location, as reported by The Province.
Three Card Poker works as two gambling games in one. Depending on the casino, you may be able to play either one or both games at the same time, however some casinos will require you to play both.
The two types of games are “ante/play”, where you compete against the dealer, and “pair plus” which has different bonus payouts for hands of one pair or better. When playing both games at the same time, players may wager different amounts on each game.
The 6 card bonus side bet is an optional wager that enables players one more chance to win.
To play, you need to place a bet within table limits inside the 6 card bonus betting circle.
Depending on the casino, you may also be required to place a wager on the ante/play and/or pair plus betting spots on the table. You then combine your three card hand with the dealer’s three card hand to form the best five card hand from the 6 cards. A 6 card bonus winning hand is paid irrespective of the outcome on the ante/play bet.
Atlantic City appears set for a new form of hotel design, shipping containers, following the result of the United States Department of the Treasury’s approval of four Opportunity Zones back in the US spring.
Asbury Park developer Pat Fasano is looking to be the first in the city to open a hotel that will be made out of surplus containers. Shipping container hotels are being opened around the world and mix modern design, environmentally friendly sustainability and tiny house living.
Fasano is one of several developers who is thinking more into doing projects in the city after Gov. Phil Murphy announced in the spring four Opportunity Zones in the resort that offer preferential tax treatment.

“There are already developers on the ground in Atlantic City taking advantage of it, and other potential developers, particularly out of Asbury Park, who have met with us, are interested in bringing private capital to Atlantic City in large part due to the Opportunity Zone,” said Matt Doherty, executive director of the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority.
Eight months ago, Gov. Murphy announced the approval through the U.S. Department of the Treasury of the four new zones in the resort — Chelsea, Ducktown, Uptown/Downtown and South Inlet.
The Opportunity Zone is a new development tool for economically-distressed communities that avails tax incentives for investing.
