Brazilian jockey, Joao Moreira, has broken yet another record, riding eight winners from 10 starts at Hong Kong’s Sha Tin racetrack.
The ‘Magic Man’ beat the previous record of six in a day, the mark which he already held with Brett Prebble and Douglas White.
The 30-year-old moved to Hong Kong three years ago and has barely put a foot wrong since, he’s won the past two premierships and rode a record 168 winners last season.
His record haul on Sunday came a day after he rode two seconds and third from his eight rides at Randwick. It’s not the first time that he’s ridden eight winners in a day, in 2013, he achieved the feat at Kranji in Singapore, as he did in 2008 in his native Brazil.
The good news for punters is that he will be back in Australia this weekend to ride at the feature Flemington meeting. He will be aboard $21 outsider Tally in the Australian Cup, where Humidor currently holds favouritism at $4.20, just ahead of Jameka at $4.50.
Sportsbet’s Will Byrne said “what an achievement by the Magic Man on Sunday, he could ride a winner on the moon. Eight winners from 10 rides, setting a new Hong Kong record. He’s popular with Aussie punters at the best of times but we expect support for anything the Magic Man rides to go through the roof.’’
