Sydney FC continue perfect start to remain equal favourites

Mon, Oct 24, 9:41am by Head Editor

Sydney FC continued their perfect start to their A-League campaign with a 1-0 away win in Wellington after an injury time winner was slotted home by Serbian Milos Ninkovic in the 92nd minute.

Melbourne City dropped their first points of the season despite equalising twice to a rampant Andy Keogh lead Perth Glory side. Despite this they have remained at equal favouritism for the A-League championship with Sydney FC at $4.50.

Melbourne Victory also moved into $5.50 from $6 after their pulsating win at the Champions, Adelaide United. Marco Rojas netted a 92nd minute goal to give Victory all three points. Victory started the season as $5 favourites but managed only one point from their first two games.

Brisbane Roar remain at $9 for title after winning their first game of the season in Gosford against the Mariners. The result means the Mariners have not won a league match in 13 attempts. Thomas Kristensen scored the only goal of the match.

The Wanderers also remain at $9 after playing out an entertaining 2-2 draw with Newcastle at their temporary home of Spotless Stadium. It was one that got away for Tony Popovic’s men though after leading the match by two goals.

The Jets are proving that they are not a team to be taken lightly this season, remaining at $17 for the Championship after being $26 in the pre-season.

The biggest sliders of the round are the Champions, Adelaide United who moved from $11 to $13 after conceding late against the Melbourne Victory. The loss was the second game in a row where they have conceded late winners at home.

The Phoenix remain at $15 and the Central Coast remain way back at $51.

United get their chance to get things back on track but it won’t be easy when they travel to Melbourne to play City. Melbourne City are $1.75 favourite with the draw at $3.70 and Adelaide at $4.40.

Sydney FC will be looking to keep their perfect start alive when they travel up the F3 on Saturday to face the Jets while the Wanderers host the Mariners who are languishing in second last position.

On Sunday the Roar will be looking to build on last week’s win when they host the Glory. They are currently $2.20 favourites over the Glory at $3, the draw is at $3.50.

Victory host the Phoenix to close out the round in the Melbourne Cup eve fixture at Melbourne’s AAMI Park.
