Sydney FC continued their perfect start to their A-League campaign with a come from behind 2-1 win in the ‘Big Blue’.
In what was undoubtedly the fixture of the round, a crowd of more than 19,000 were in attendance to see a David Carney brace snatch the points from an unlucky Melbourne Victory.
Besart Berisha missed a penalty in a first half that Melbourne dominated but Sydney had the last laugh and remain a $4 favourite for the Championship. Victory have also maintained their odds of $7 half way down the market.
An early Jamie Maclaren strike was enough to give the hosts their third win in a row on Friday largely thanks to a well-organised defence. City’s loss saw them ease slightly in Championship betting from $4.33 to $4.50.
Speaking of easing in the market, last year’s Champions Adelaide have had a horror start, with only one point from five games they find themselves way back, 14 points behind the ladder leaders.
The alarm bells are sounding for United now after losing at home to the previously winless, Mariners. They are now $15 for back-to-back titles, which looks increasingly unlikely.
Speaking of drought breaking wins, Wellington’s 2-0 win over the Jets on Saturday gave them their win of the campaign. The double from Roy Krishna saw them remain at $26 for the title.
All in all, there were 13 goals in 5 matches this weekend, two of them came inside the opening five minutes of the last match of the round in Perth on Sunday.
It was a pulsating fixture with the Wanderers getting an important away point in Perth. The Wanderers scored through Nicolas Martinez just 37 seconds into the game, the fastest goal in the club’s history, before the home side hit back.
