NRL punter collects $37,820 on amazing double

Tue, Aug 30, 1:30pm by Senior Writer

One ambitious punter has turned a $20 bet on multiple try scorers in two NRL games into an impressive $37,820 payday.

The Sportsbet punter took a two leg-multi priced at odds of $1891 spread over outcomes in two matches some four days apart.

The first bet was on Cowboys forward Ethan Lowe to score two or more tries against the Bulldogs on Thursday night at odds of $61.

Lowe had scored just 13 tries in 56 games for the Cowboys and never twice in a game, but amazingly crossed in the 19th minute and then again in the 50th-minute to secure the first leg.

To secure the cash, the punter needed Eels fullback Bevan French to score a hat-trick in Monday night’s game against the Dragons.

Going into the game, French had scored 13 tries in 11 games in 2016 with the odds of his second career hat-trick priced at $31.

But in the last ever Monday night NRL match, and the last at Parramatta Stadium before a $300 million redevelopment, the punter got off to a great start when French went over in the 17th minute.

French then went over again in the 49th minute, putting the unlikely hat-trick suddenly on the table with over half an hour of play remaining.

Then just after the hour, he got on the end of some great build-up play to make it three tries for the match and secure the windfall for one lucky punter.

“Never mind French’s hat trick or Lowe’s double….this punter has come up with the performance of the round, if not the season,” said’s Christian Jantzen.

The win comes after an NRL punter in July secured $137,000 windfall by predicting the exact margins in two NRL matches.

How $20 was turned into $37,820

$31: Bevan French to score 3+ tries v Dragons

$61: Ethan Lowe to score 2+ tries v Bulldogs

= $37,820
