Harry Styles was seen on video tape gambling in a Perth casino recently. After “a lot of money was lost” at casinos during One Direction’s 2012 tour of Australia, the pop singer’s gambling habits on his latest visit to Australia are making news again.
Harry Styles, age 19, is a key member of the English boy band, One Direction. His band soon will begin a one-month, 10-date tour of Australia, though the original schedule had the band playing at this time. One Direction showing up in Perth to bet on roulette is notable, because Perth isn’t one of the stops on the tour.
Harry Styles is said to enjoy roulette so much that he has a tattoo which says “17 Black”. It’s no surprise that he was seen at the VIP roulette wheels in the Pearl Room Casino in Perth. Speculation is Mr Styles lost more money during the session, as the black seventeen never appeared among the electronic results board seen in the video.”
A later social media quote showed no indication of a gambling trip, as Harry Styles seemed to be back in his hotel room when he typed, “Watching The Biggest Loser. This show is intense.” The reference to losing caused all the pop culture sites to quip about his gambling losses.
After a previous gambling session, the band’s management gave members what was described as a “serious dressing down”. According to band member Niall Horan, the confrontation with management “got ugly”. Apparently this upbraiding came after One Direction lost a serious amount of money at the casino.
According to Horan, he came out £100 ahead during his gaming excursion. Other One Direction members didn’t come out so lucky. Horan said, “Like most of the stupid things we do, it seemed like it was a good idea at the time. We thought it was funny. We just thought, ‘We’re 18, this is the first time we’ve been able to spend a bit of money in weeks because we’ve been on the road.’ I won £100, which seemed reasonable, then I stopped.”
When asked how the other boy singers fared betting against the house, Niall Horan said, “I’ll have to say, ‘No comment’ about the others. Let’s just say it got a bit ugly and a lot of money was lost. A lot.”
Harry Styles seems particularly obsessed with live gambling. When he tweeted a birthday message to Niall Horan recently, he posted, “Happy Birthday. Behave yourself. All on red.” With such advice, it doesn’t seem certain Mr Styles lost during his recent roulette session in Perth.
For the Australian gamblers who aren’t familiar with current pop culture, One Direction is the most famous and successful boy band of the moment. There always seems to be room for one preeminent boy band and One Direction is the cash cow of the moment. Speculation is the bandmates should have plenty of money to wager, since their band might generate $1 billion in revenues soon. This is an impressive feat for a group of guys who were unknown in 2010.
One Direction formed in 2010 to compete in the seventh series of the UK version of X Factor. After finishing third, they were signed by Simon Cowell’s Syco Records. They became a breakout hit in much the same way as Justin Bieber, through the power of social media. Some thought the day of the boy band was long gone, but One Direction proves once again that relatively clean-cut teen boys singing about harmless love is still a hit with girls of a certain age. Like The Bieber, One Direction is now a worldwide phenomenon. And they’re still young enough to listen to band management when they try to pressure them to avoid gambling.
The members of One Direction are Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson. Niall Horan is the soulful one who carries a guitar to busk in shopping malls to give the girls a thrill. Harry Styles is the rascal. Louis Tomlinson is the funny one who enjoys pranks. As you can see, One Direction is another incarnation of a line-up we’ve seen many times over the years.
The current tour includes stops in only 3 cities: Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane. The ten concerts include 2 dates in Brisbane, 4 in Sydney, and 4 in Melbourne. Those interested should know the original tour dates, which were supposed to take place from September 11 to September 21, have been pushed back due to scheduling conflicts. Now the tour will last from October 19 until October 29, starting in Brisbane and ending in Melbourne.
