Three Australians are over $16 million richer after sharing the $50 million Oz Lotto prize on Tuesday night including a Sydney man so stunned he hung up the phone when told.
The Manly man was contacted by Oz Lotto officials on Wednesday morning but his initial reaction was to hang up, thinking it was some sort of scam.
But after checking his ticket, which was a System 9 featuring family birthdates, he realised that he had won a life-changing amount.
“Are you serious!?! You are kidding me! I can’t believe it … You have made my whole life! How amazing is this?” he said,
“When you rang before I thought it was a bit strange. But then I went and grabbed my ticket, then I checked my ticket and saw the numbers!”
“Earlier today I thought I’d love to win. I was just thinking in my head driving along, and lo and behold I won! I can’t believe it!” he said.
“It’s sort of sunk in, but it hasn’t. I don’t know what to think. I don’t know what to say. I’m lost for words!”
The man purchased his winning ticket at Ink & Press Cafe in Fairlight and said he would share the money with family as well as invest it wisely.
The other winners were from Brisbane and Western Australia.
A woman from the Brisbane suburb of Carrindale was incomplete shock after the win.
“Oh my god! You’ve stopped my heart! I need my heart fixed!” the woman said. “Oh my god! I just won $16 million! Holy sh*t!”
“I can’t wait to call my husband and tell him!” she said, adding that the pair would share the winnings with their family.
The numbers for draw 1222 were 2, 45, 29, 7, 23, 19, 21, with 37 and 43 the supplementary numbers.
