The star filly has drawn barrier number 13, a gate that no horse has ever won the race from – a hoodoo dating back 57 years.
The odds of Earthquake winning Saturday’s Golden Slipper have eased from $2.10 to $2.30 at Sportingbet.com.au.
Second favourite Mossfun remains a $6 chance at Sportingbet after landing barrier 11, in front of Ghibellines at $10, who will start from barrier two.
Sportingbet CEO Michael Sullivan said that Earthquake’s drifting odds were certainly justified.
“Earthquake’s clearly the best horse in the race, but the wide barrier is going to make her job that much tougher, so she’s entitled to drift in the market,” Sullivan said.
Any rain and a heavier track could see the favourite’s odds continue to ease out, as Mossfun and the Peter Moody-trained Bring Me the Maid have shown good wet-weather form.
Bring Me The Maid firmed from $15 into $12 at Sportingbet.com.au after drawing favourably in gate 5.
