Horse Racing Best Bets – Thursday 17th Februay 2011

Thu, Feb 17, 11:49am by Kevin Pitstock

There’s a pretty big day of racing around Australia today with plenty of betting action to be had.

Tonight in Launceston their are two big races that are the Veolia Environmental Classic 1200m and the Tasmanian Oaks 2100m.

There are also meets at the Gold Coast, Ballarat, a big meet at Hawkesbury and a meeting at Mt Barker that we won’t be covering here.
Hawkesbury Best Bets

Race 7, No.13 – Rose of Peace

The best bet of the day at Hawkesbury is Rose of Peace. It’s a maiden race but the 3YO Filly by Hussonet has been racing in big time races up till now. She finished 4th in he last two starts; one was a 300k race and the other a 100k race.

Without any wins on the board and what seems to be a race lacking quality, I’m confident enough to make Rose of Peace my best bet of the day.

Race 2, No.8 – Sports Model

This horse has pretty horrible formlines of late in Kembla Grange. This 4YO Mare by Universal Prince returns home to her home track, against a decent field. The last time she raced at Hawkesbury she finished 4th, and should improve by a big margin today.

Sports Model will be paying good odds, and I rate her as a great value bet each-way.
Launceston Best Bets

Veolia Environmental Classic 1200m – Race 6, No.2 – Punctuate

The two favourites in this race are trained by D & S Brunton. The stable mates will compete against each other in the first of the major races today at Launceston.

Punctuate has fantastic formlines of 1-1-5-1. The 3YO Bay Gelding by Invincible Spirit will have his 2nd run back after a spell in which he has a 100% record.

Tasmanian Oaks 2100m Best Bet – Race 8, No.2 – Exchanges

Exchanges will run as second favourite in today’s Tasmanian Oaks. Ben Melham will be riding the Lee Freedman trained horse in the feature event of the day.

Exchanges has over 87k in career prize money and the 3YO Bay Filly has form of 2-1-2-2.

It looks like it will be a hotly contested race with the other major chances being Tough Chik, Le Bel Away and La Fantastique

Bet now on Exchanges at Sportsbet.com.au and get fixed odds of $4.20.
Ballarat Best Bets

Race 6, No.3 – Vandelay

This 5YO Gelding by King’s Best has fantastic form of 3-1-1-2. In his last race he made a fantastic charge to the line and just missed out on the money. That was on the 11th of Feb at Pakenham and he’s backing up here relatively quick and I think he’s a good thing and the best bet of the day at Ballarat.
Gold Coast Best Bets

Race 3, No.3 – Tizzy Lizzy

Jim Byrne is on this 4YO Mare by Catcher In The Rye today and she has the best form in the race. Although that is not saying much, only being a c1 race.

She has been trialing well, and won he last race in a Maiden at Ipswich. On a day that doesn’t have any stand out horses to bet on, this is the best bet.

Take this one easy though, confidence is only 60%.
