Today is another action packed mid-week Wednesday and we will be covering the best bets at Sandown, Canterbury, Doomben and Launceston today. The headline of the day is the AAMI 2011 Launceston Cup 2400m which is race 7 on the cards down there. We have a lot to get through today so I’ll get straight into the best bets for the day.
AAMI 2011 Launceston Cup 2400m Best Bet
Most of the main chances in this race went around in the Hobart Cup in the 13th Feb, and race that Bid Spotter won. He came streaking down the outside rail for a courageous win. He was sitting in 7th place with 400m to go, which gives you a bit of an idea of the charge to the line he made.
The 2011 Launceston Cup is 2400m, just 200m extra from the Hobart Cup. Bid Spotter has raced at this distance before so it obviously won’t be an issue. He has Rodd riding again and will start from barrier 8.
I think he’ll be too good for the likes of Dream Peddlar who was slightly disappointing in the Hobart Cup and Red Buttons. They have both drawn out wide and will need to improve significantly from the Hobart Cup to have a chance here.
Bid Spotter is currently paying $4.80 on Sportsbet.com.au fixed odds.
Sandown Best Bets
Dave the Dude will run 2nd favourite to Star of Jeune in this 3100m race today. Two starts ago they raced against each other and Dave the Dude finished 2nd while Star of Jeune finished 4th. Dave the Dude beat the favourite of today’s race by 2.5 lengths that day. Star of Jeune ran favourite that day and I think the online bookmakers have got this one wrong.
Dave the Dude is solid value for your hard earned. Fixed odds of $4.20 are currently available at Sportsbet.
Test My Patience is a stand out in Race 3 at Sandown today. This Testa Rossa Colt has had 6 starts with form of 2-2-1. That includes a last start win over 1300m where he beat one of the 2nd favourites to today’s race Wearethestorm by 2.7 lengths.
Testa My Patience is my best bet of the day at Sandown and is currently showing $2.00 fixxed odds on Sportsbet. I don’t think that’ll last long though!
Canterbury Best Bets
Oakfield Comet has had 5 starts for 4 wins. Her only loss was in her maiden race way back on the 18th June 2010. She goes into this race as second favourite behind Quick Peek who has finished 7th in the last two starts.
I think this 4YO Bay Mare can continue on her winning ways and notch up another win. She is currently paying $3.80 fixed odds on Sportsbet.com.au.
This Mare is trained by none other than the legendary Gai Waterhouse and forms a formiddable combination with Nash Rawiller on board. She will be carrying 59.5kg but she should get the job done here today. She has had 7 starts for 3-3-0 and has won her last two starts.
If you are a regular reader the horse Brazen Babe might sound familiar to you. We picked this winner for you last start and she will be racing in this race as well. She’s obviously in great form and will be carrying 4.5kg less than the Older than Time which may be appealing to you.
I think the classier horse of the two is Older than Time. The odds are short at $1.85 so you might be more interested in taking the $6.00 about Brazen Babe.
Doomben Best Bets
Premiership leading QLD jockey Chris Munce is aboard this lovely Gelding out of Sequalo. He is a last start winner at Doomben and has form lines of 10:3-3-2. He’s currently paying $1.70 on Sportsbet.com.au and rightly so. He is the standout in this race and should do it easily.
That wraps up our best bets for Wednesday the 23rd February, 2011. Stay tuned for our best bets this this Saturday’s massive stakes races.
