It may be Grand Final weekend in the football codes, but it is the best weekend of racing to date this season. It kicks off on Friday night at Moonee Valley with four Group races. The highlight is the Manikato Stakes clash between Sepoy and More Joyous. At Randwick it is Super Saturday with seven Group races, no less than four of them Group One; the big one, the Epsom Handicap. Then on Sunday things start to hot up in Melbourne at Flemington with four Group One races, the main even the Turnbull Stakes.
Moonee Valley Friday Night – Race 3 Champagne Stakes Preview & Betting Markets
The first Group race of the night on Friday is the Group 3 Champagne Stakes (Race3) for three year old fillies and our traders are with the favourite here, Satin Shoes. She is back to her own sex after struggling against the older horses and at the set weights and from barrier five she will get to the lead and be hard to run down. Her biggest danger will be Emerald Downs. She had no luck behind Bliss Street and although had the tempo against her the start before at the Valley, she has won there before.
Peronne Lady also had no luck last start and she will be getting home hard, while Miss Stellabelle was terrific winning first up and must be included. The Kavanagh stable is firing at the minute. Glissade is the risk horse. She was thought to be better than average, but has disappointed this time in and would be a surprise winner.
Betting: Satin Shoes $2.90, Emerald Downs $4.50, Glissade $6.50, Peronne Lady $8.00, Platelet $8.50, Miss Stellabelle $10.00, Miss Zoom $13.00, Others $31.00 & above.
Moonee Valley Friday Night – Race 5 Tatts JRA Cup Preview & Betting Markets
Best bet after the scratchings who are engaged in Sunday’s Turnbull Stakes is Domesky. Down 5.5 kg from the WFA ‘Dato Tan’ where he had no luck, punters can expect a bold showing here.
Southern Speed will fill the placings, depending on whether she runs. She was sensational behind Lion Tamer last start.
Betting: Domesky $2.40, Cosmonaut $4.50, Silent Surround $7.00, Carnero $7.50
Moonee Valley Friday Night – Race 6 Manikato Stakes Preview & Betting Markets
One of the most anticipated races of the season is the main event, the Group One Manikato Stakes (Race6). Even though the great Black Caviar isn’t racing, the clash between the best mare in the country, More Joyous , and the best youngster in the country, Sepoy, should be enthralling. Both the Snowden and Waterhouse camps will be hoping that the track remains a dead 5 and if it does we should see a battle ‘royale’.
Sepoy can take the lead from the inside barrier and punters will know by race 6 whether this is an advantage or not. Buffering should sit outside Sepoy with More Joyous and Sister Madly sitting in behind them. Our traders are tipping Sepoy ahead of More Joyous. He drops 6kg on his win in the ‘Danehill’ and has since won a trial at Cranbourne in unbelievable time.
More Joyous flies fresh and she is a genuine champion, but the young colt might just have the edge. Atomic Force is in great form and will appreciate the sting out of the ground, while Sister Madly will get the run of the race and should be included in multiples after a nice win first up for her new stable.
Betting: Sepoy $2.10, More Joyous $3.00, Atomic Force $10.00, Sister Madly $12.00, Kulgrinda $17.00, Buffering $17.00, Happy Zero $21.00, Rue Maple $81.00.
Moonee Valley Friday Night – Race 7 Bill Stutt Stakes Preview & betting Markets
Race 7 is the Group Two Bill Stutt Stakes run over 1600 metres where Chase The Rainbow gets his chance after being scratched last Saturday. As we mentioned last week, he ran home in impressive time last start behind Specter and that form held up in the Guineas Prelude Saturday. It is a bit of a tricky alley for Dean Yendall, but if he slots in with some cover, he is definitely the one to beat.
Sabrage is the danger to him. The blinkers go on for the first time and with no genuine speed in the race Damien Oliver may decide to go to the front and try and dictate the pace. Cute Emily is the other choice for a leader and while disappointing last start, if she does lead on her own she might take catching. Zabeelionaire is the horse on the up that will be suited by being out to 1600 metres, while Whisper Downs is the risk of the race. He had the run to suit in winning last time and is up 4 kg on that win.
Betting: Chase The Rainbow $2.50, Whisper Downs $5.50, Sabrage $6.00, Cute Emily $7.00, Zabeelionaire $7.00, Rahveel $17.00, Others $21.00 & above

Randwick Super Saturday Races – Race 3 Roman Consul Stakes Preview & Betting Markets
It is Super Saturday at Randwick and it is one of the best day’s racing of the year. The first of the seven Group races is the Group Two Roman Consul Stakes (Race 3) over 1200 metres. Once again in Sydney it is only a small field with the race being at the mercy of Foxwedge. He is better suited back to 1200 metres and with Nash Rawiller back on board, should get a gun run just behind the leader Startreusse. He has form around Smart Missile and Helmet which should see him win here.
Masthead has form behind Sepoy which says it all, while our traders are prepared to forgive Aeronautical for his last start. He was ridden upside down and back at Randwick and ridden cold will be his best chance of a win. Startreusse was disappointing last time when odds on but if he settles better in front could lead comfortably and surprise.
Betting: Foxwedge $2.20, Masthead $4.80, Aeronautical $5.00, Startreusse $5.50, Hollyweird $15.00, Do You Think$11.00.
Randwick Super Saturday Races – Race 4 Premiere Stakes Preview & Betting Markets
Race 4 is the Group Two Premiere Stakes over 1200 metres and our traders are very confident that the short priced favourite Love Conquers All will win the race. He was brilliant winning first up and with the track likely to be slow, he will make it two from two. His record at Randwick is imposing only being beaten once in six starts; that time runner up in the Doncaster.
Albert The Fat ran second behind the ‘fav’ in his first start for Chris Waller and he does meet him better at the WFA scale, so he looms as the quinella horse. Winter King is always in the placings when it is wet and should run third, while Danleigh is probably looking for more than the 1200 metres.
Betting: Love Conquers All $1.90, Albert The Fat $4.20, Winter King $7.00, Danleigh $8.50, Neeson $15.00, Hurtle Myrtle $15.00, Lucha Libre $26.00.
Randwick Super Saturday Races – Race 5 Craven Plate Preview & Betting Markets
The Craven Plate (Race 5) over 2000 metres isn’t a race for punters to get too excited about. Our traders don’t envisage My Kingdom Of Fyfe getting beaten and for a ‘bookends’ quinella, think the bottom weight Older Than Time will run second. My Kingdom of Fyffe just missed behind Trusting first up and that form has been franked , while Older Than Time got home okay in the Shannon Stakes and will appreciate the rise to 2000 metres. Syreon might run a place, but this race is like the contestants on Australia’s Next Top Model-not too deep.
Betting: My Kingdom Of Fyffe $1.60, Older Than Time $4.80, Syreon $13.00, Zara Dancer $15.00, Shootoff $16.00,Gazza Guru $17.00, Others $21.00 & above.
Randwick Super Saturday Races – Race 6 Spring Champion Stakes Preview & Betting Markets
The first of the Group One races is the Spring Champion Stakes (Race 6)for three year olds over 2000 metres and our traders are looking at ‘racebook order’ and going down to number three. Darci Be Good did get the favours to win last time out at Newcastle, but Nash Rawiller goes back on and last time he rode him, he gave Strike The Stars 4.5 kg and beat him. He should get another nice run and the track being soft is a definite bonus.
Ambidexter, if you’ll pardon the pun, is a good each way bet. He was a tad unlucky behind Darci Be Good and should get a trail behind the leading pairs in the race and be saved for the final two furlongs. Strike The Stars is the deserved favourite after winning well in the ‘Gloaming’, but he may be a little vulnerable in the soft going. On a bone dry track he would start in the red. For punters going wider in the first leg of the quaddie, they can include the leader, Doctor Doom and the lightly raced Rekindled Alliance.
Betting: Strike The Stars $2.70, Darci Be Good $5.00, Rekindled Alliance $6.00 Ambidexter $6.50, Doctor Doom $7.00, Godspeed $17.00, Vittoria $26.00, Others $41.00 & above.
Randwick Super Saturday Races – Race 7 Epsom Handicap Preview & Betting Markets
The big race of the Day is one of the major “mile ‘events on the racing calendar, The Group One Epsom Handicap (Race7). This is the first time this has happened, but in this race punters will find our traders best bet, best roughie and lay of the day’. First up the best bet is Pinker Pinker. This is a situation where a horse ticks all the boxes. She is flying this preparation, drops down from WFA to the minimum and is drawn ideally to get a cosy run on a soft surface which she prefers. She will be in the finish.
The ‘lay of the day’ is Sincero. There is nothing to knock about his form but back on the inside in a big mile event and carrying the top weight is a big risk. Everything will need to go right for jockey Chris O’Brien. Our traders are forgiving Secret Admirer. She has always been set for this an although disappointing last start, she looked to have something left in the tank and this is her Grand Final and it is on the right weekend.
Also set for this and also appreciating the soft ground will be Foreteller. Freshened up with a run back to 1300 metres with a mind on the future. Sacred Choice will appreciate the going and as such has had some early support, but she was flat last start, while King Lionheart is up in class but could be the only leader in a slow run race. The best ‘roughie’ of the day is Red Colossus. He has been racing well at WFA in Melbourne, drops down to the minimum as well and likes the soft ground. He is a terrific each way chance at big odds.
Betting: Sincero $4.60, Pinker Pinker $5.50, Secret Admirer $7.50, Foreteller $8.50, Sacred Choice $12.00, Thankgodyou’rehere $12.00, Kion Lionheart $14.00, Others $19.00 & above
Randwick Super Saturday Races – Race 8 Flight Stakes Preview & Betting Markets
The Flight Stakes (Race 8) is a Group One race over 1600 metres for the three year old fillies and it is an intriguing race. Streama seems to be fool proof at the moment, getting the lead at a slow pace and then kicking and winning. Pane In The Glass always gets home well behind her as does Florentina. The same thing could easily happen here as Streama looks set to dominate the tempo again.
The wildcard in the race is the Melbourne visitor Hallowell Belle who was a certainty beaten in the Tranquil Star last start and was only beaten a length behind Sepoy the time before that. They seem to have the race between them with Tai Tai Tess the key runner. If she comes across and takes on Streama for the lead then Pane In The Glass definitely comes back into calculations.
Betting: Streama $3.60, Pane In The Glass $3.60, Hallowell Belle $4.20, Florentina $10.00, Dowager Queen $13.00, Tai Tess $15.00, Others $17.00 & above.
Randwick Super Saturday Races – Race 9 Metropolitan Handicap Preview & Betting Markets
The final race on a big day is the time honoured (yes that cliché) Metropolitan Handicap (Race 9) run over 2400 metres. It is a tricky race so our traders advise punters to be cautious. Trusting’s form is hard to knock. After winning the ‘Chelmsford’ we queried whether he could handle the step to 2000 metres, but he absolutely brained them in the Hill Stakes so our traders are loathe to say he won’t get another 400 metres.
Two horses that will are Tullamore and Hawk Island. Both are on the way up in their preparation with Tullamore a specialist at the distance and Hawk Island loving the slow going. Lamasery has wining form, but if the track gets any worse he will be scratched. Crafty Irna wasn’t far off Lamasery last time in the Kingstown Town, but she is a query for the extra distance. Best ‘roughie’ in the race is Home On A Wing. He ran a terrific second to Green Moon in the Newcastle Cup and even though drawn badly, will appreciate the surface.
Betting: Trusting $5.50, Lamasery $5.50, Tullamore $8.00, Hawk Island $8.50, Crafty Irna $9.00, Stand To Gain $13.00, Home On A Wing $16.00, Others $16.00 & above.
