When it comes to casino gambling in Australia, few states can boast the options that Queensland has. While Queensland may not have the big names that first come to mind when it comes to Australia’s casino scene (such as Crown or The Star), there are four full casinos that players can choose from in the state.

Whether you prefer a large scale, Vegas-style resort or a more intimate, reserved casino experience, you’ll be able to find exactly what you’re looking for in Queensland. Here’s a quick look at each of the casinos currently operating in the state and their locations.

The Star Gold Coast

The Star Gold Coast, which used to be known as Jupiters Gold Coast, is the oldest casino in Queensland. The facility sits on the Nerang River in Broadbeach, a suburb of the city of Gold Coast. The casino itself hosts more than 1,300 gaming machines (including pokies, video poker, and some other casino games), along with 70 table games and a poker room that offers cash games on a daily basis.

In addition to the gambling opportunities, there’s plenty of other activity going on at The Star Gold Coast. Those staying for a trip can enjoy lodging in the 21 floor hotel that has nearly 600 rooms available. Perhaps the biggest attraction in the facility is the The Star Theatre, which can hold over 2,000 visitors and is designed to host international stage shows and musical acts.

Other amenities include seven restaurants, eight bars, and a ballroom. Visitors can also take advantage of the health spa and gym on site, while corporate visitors can utilize the extensive conference facilities there. A monorail is also available to shuttle visitors to the nearby Oasis Shopping Centre.

Jupiters Casino Townsville

Along with their Gold Coast location, Jupiters also operates a smaller facility in Townsville. While the casino might not be as large, there’s still plenty of action available for players of all types, starting with more than 300 pokies and gaming machines comfortably spread out over the casino floor. There are also more than 20 gaming tables that offer seven different traditional table games for players to choose from. Those looking for a more exclusive gambling experience can take part in the VIP Gaming Room, which offers a more intimate feel and some higher limit tables and machines to patrons. There’s also a dedicated Keno and TAB Lounge for sports bettors.

Jupiters Townsville also features award-winning accommodations at their hotel, which features nearly 200 rooms (ranging from standard rooms to a Presidential Suite). For additional entertainment, rotating shows are featured at the casino, and visitors can dine at one of three unique eateries: the Spin Café, the Aqua buffet, or Kobe. There are also three bars for those looking for more relaxed venues to grab a drink.

Treasury Casino and Hotel

The Treasury Casino and Hotel, also known simply as The Treasury, is located in Brisbane. The Treasury is similar in size to the The Star Gold Coast location, offering 1,300 pokies and gaming machines along with around 80 table games, such as blackjack, baccarat and roulette. They also offer some uniquely named games like Treasury 21 – a version of Spanish 21 – and Treasury Wheel, which is just another name for the Big Six wheel. A poker room offers both cash games and tournament action, including both daily tournaments and some special events.

The hotel at The Treasury is located in a separate building (one that once served as the Lands Administration Building for Brisbane). It’s a small hotel, but is designed with luxury in mind, and has received mostly positive reviews from those who have stayed there. There are also several meeting rooms in the hotel, making it suitable for business use. Where the Treasury is a little lacking is in entertainment options; while the bars and clubs in the casino will have live music, there’s no large theatre for major events as you’ll find at some other major Australian casinos.

The Reef

Opening in 1996, the Reef Hotel Casino is the sole casino in Cairns. While it’s a bit smaller than some of the other casino venues in Queensland, it still has a lot to offer players, as it hosts more than 500 gaming machines. There are also extensive table games options, including blackjack, baccarat, roulette, and pontoon. You can also take part in the Keno Lounge or enjoy the TAB Mega Wall where you can follow along with all of your sports bets throughout the day.

A small five-star hotel is operated on the same site, with 128 rooms available for visitors staying overnight. Visitors can also enjoy dining at the four restaurants that are hosted inside The Reef’s complex, or relax at the two additional bars there.
