UFC 206 Preview: Holloway favoured to beat Pettis in Toronto

Thu, Dec 8, 5:03pm by Head Editor

UFC 206 heads to Toronto this weekend with the featherweight bout between Max Holloway and former UFC Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis to headline the card.

Anthony Pettis just snapped a three-fight losing streak in a back-and-forth brawl with Oliveira but will need to raise him game against Holloway who’s won nine bouts in a row.

Holloway is heavily favoured at $1.48 to make it a perfect ten and looks like he’s just entering his prime. It could be a tough day at the office for Pettis ($2.66) who seems to have been figured out and won’t be suited to Holloway’s volume and underrated wrestling.

The Welterweight showdown between Donald Cerrone and Matt Brown also looks a bit one-sided from a betting perspective with Brown winning just one of his last five bouts and Cerrone winning his last three.

Cerrone is $1.33 favourite as he’s not only the far better grappler, but just handed two incredibly tough men the first technical knockout losses of their career. Brown is not given much chance at $3.34.

Also in the welterweight division, knockout kings Jordan Mein and Emil Weber Meek will go head-to-head. Mein is $1.59 favourite in his comeback bout after retiring from the sport nearly two years ago.

UFC newcomer Weber Meek is a $2.38 outsider and may have a tough time of it, even if his opponent is a bit rusty. Meek is one of Europe’s finest welterweights, the Norwegian rising to fame by brutally knocking out Rousimar Palhares in his last match up but the UFC is a big step up.

Mein, who hails from Lethbridge in Canada will have the home crowd on his side and as one of Welterweight division’s slickest boxers, should be too good for Meek.

Also on the main card, Cub Swanson ($2.86) takes on Doo Ho Choi ($1.43) in the featherweight division.

For a moment, Swanson appeared to be on the downward slide, losing two straight bouts in ugly fashion but he’s won two in a row since then. He’ll have to be on his game here as he’s about to face a seriously tough opponent.

Choi is a very dangerous man, the ‘Korean Superboy’ has landed first round knockouts in each of his three UFC fights, earning this significant step up in competition.

The final fight to take a look at on the main card is Tim Kennedy ($1.65) taking on Kelvin Gastelum ($2.23). Gastelum is an immensely frustrating fighter to like. The 25-year-old Ultimate Fighter (TUF) champ has a ton of talent and heart but is inconsistent.

After the controversial end to his bout with top contender Yoel Romero, Kennedy took some time off. He’s back now and the veteran will be welcoming Gastelum to the middleweight division.
