NRL Round 15 Betting: Brisbane Broncos Vs St George-Illawarra Dragons – Friday 17th of June 2011
The First game to be played after the Queensland team was convincingly beaten in the Origin will almost be a re-match with a lot of players from both sides backing up after game 2. The Broncos will host the table topping Dragons in a top of the 8 clash up at Suncorp. The Dragons have lost a lot of momentum due to Origin with a draw and a loss from their last 2 starts. The Broncos went against the typical backwards momentum of Origin season and have managed to win the last 2. So will a team of less talent with momentum be able to topple a better team with less momentum? Friday night will tell the story, but I know who my money is riding on.
The Dragons are one of the very few teams that have a winning record at Suncorp. They are not just ahead either, they are currently sitting at 6 wins and 3 losses. The Broncos have won the last 2 their though, as well as 3 of the last 4.
Bronco’s coach Anthony Griffin has seemingly abandoned his early season ploys to rest representative players by naming a full strength team for this all important match on Friday. The Broncos have managed 2 on the trot with and without their Origin stars, they will need all the help they can get as the Dragons look to consolidate their lead in the competition.
The Broncos were able to hold out every team in the second half up until Round 6 against the Roosters. Since then they have let the flood gates open so to speak , with an average of 15 points scored in the second half against them. If their first halves were this bad they would be averaging 30 points against them per game. Luckily this is not the case. The Dragons have been scoring far fewer tries in the second half of their game then the first, so if it is close at half time then it will be close at full time.
Wayne Bennett was not a happy camper after last week’s Friday night loss to the Titans. Bennett had plenty to say about Origin ruining a team’s momentum, and when you are missing as many key players as the Dragons it is no wonder why he is upset. That being said he will have access to an almost full strength side, the only losses being injured players as the Origin reps will be taking to the field.
The Dragons are under threat of losing top spot as the Eagles and Storm are breathing down their neck. A win in this clash is now vital, as they are looking to secure their third minor premiership in a row and aim to win their first back to back titles in the amalgamated clubs history.
After dominating almost every team in the comp it is hard to believe that they have only managed a Draw against the Eels and a loss to the Titans, 2 teams that are well in the bottom 8. This is a big game for the players and coach alike, they will be fired up.
After the last origin game the Broncos got belted by the Eagles who are the second best team in the comp, this time round is not much better with the Dragons coming up north to hammer them around. This will be an easy 13+ to the Dragons.
The Dragons are paying spectacular odds here and are the underdogs at Centrebet, paying $1.96. This reminds me of last year, the Dragons were dominating, had a poor couple of weeks and their premiership odds blew out to about $5, then they carved every one up again. Dragons 13+ is good for $4.50
