NRL Round 16 Betting: Newcastle Knights Vs Penrith Panthers – Saturday 18th of June 2011
The rejuvenated Panthers will be travelling to Newcastle to take on the struggling Knights with both teams needing a win to climb out of the bottom 8. Both teams are 5 and 7 for the season and both have a for and against in the negatives, but a win from the Knights or a big win from the Panthers will get them ahead of the Bulldogs on the ladder.
The Panthers are sitting at 3 from their last 4, which seems to be a result of the appointment of coaching Guru Gus’ Gould as coaching director. The Knights
This is the second and last time that these two will meet in the 2011 regular season, with the first game being played in Round 1 at Centrebet stadium. Winding the clock back it was the Knights that started the comp on the top of the ladder with a 42-8 demolition of the Panthers. The Panthers will be seeing red coming into this one!
The Knights look like they are already making room for new recruits as long time Knights player Corey Paterson was shifted off to North Queensland to play for the Cowboys. With Billionaire Tinkler in and Coach Bennet on his way the Knights playing roster have to prove they are worthy of a premiership winning side. This is not hard for the likes of Gidley, Uate and Houston, but the rest of the team will be under scrutiny for the next 11 weeks and will need to start performing or they will be transferred or dropped from the top league all together.
The Knights are missing a couple of central players in half back Jarrod Mullen and 5/8 Ben Rogers. This has forced Gidley to the 5/8 position, and after watching his excellent Origin performance I have no doubt he will be well suited to the role and will play well.
The Panthers have to be cautious to not get too far ahead of themselves even though they have won 3 of their last 4 matches. These wins have come against the Broncos, Rabbitohs and Titans. The Rabbitohs and Titans are a gimme for most teams in the comp, the Broncos were in a bit form slump in that loss as well, and it was played at home… then again they did win 33-10.
The roster is starting to deplete at the camp though, now without Jennings, Gordon, Plum and Tahu. Although not key positions they are all reasonable strike players, and Gordon is also the team Goal Kicker.
If you are either a Knights or Panthers supporter I would be backing your team to get in by 1-12 as this is going to be a close one. The Panthers have been travelling well though and have been able to beat other bottom 8 teams so I don’t know why this should be any different…. Plus they will be hungry for revenge. Panthers 1-12.
